Re: Dining plan....interesting quirk??

Can you tell me if I should change my plan? I currently have already changed my son's dining plan from a child to an adult, (I told them he's 10 years old, but he's really 8). I did this because I thought if we had listed him as his true age of 8, that he would not be able to order off the adult menu. He is picky, but the opposite of most kids in that he does not like to always eat tipical kids food. He really enjoys lobster, steak, italian, and what I will call "tasty" food. He hates to always eat burgers & chicken fingers, etc.
We have already booked & my travel agent has already changed it with Disney once, he said he just made a mistake about my son's age. What should I do?

Re: Dining plan....interesting quirk??

IMHO, if you plan on your son eating off the adult menu, then I feel that you should pay the adult price...it seems only fair. I just posted about this before your post that children can order off the adult menu at the child price...do what you feel is best.

Re: Dining plan....interesting quirk??

I just wish there was a way to order adult ITEMS but not necessarily adult portions. He certainly will NOT eat all that food. He eats what a normal 8 year old would eat as far as quantity, just that he likes what we would be eating. I only did one kids meal for him last trip because it was a disaster, he constantly wanted our food, not his. My boyfriend ended eating my son's mac & cheese!
There will certainly be alot of waste if we order the adult food, but I think I'm stuck with not many options here.

Re: Dining plan....interesting quirk??

I wonder if you'll have any problems? Because I know the dining plan says that kids have to order off the kid's menu. They don't have any way of knowing that you've paid for adult meals for him. I know nothing more than what I read, so I'm just posing the question. I know nothing, nothing!

Also, if you're worried about waste, you can always ask for smaller portions at sit down places.

Her Dinning card would say 3 adults not 2 adults and 1 child if she paid for3 adults Right???? So I don't think she would have a problem????? Nancyk, I agree with you my kids also get tired of the kids menu at times and they are only 5 &4!!!! Good luck with what you decide.

Re: Dining plan....interesting quirk??

Is this at all possible?
My travel agent told me the cost of the Dining Plan for my DD (7) was $10 a day!!!
I think they have it noted as 2 adults and 1 child on my plan.
And if you dont use the child meals, they would be credited or pending as child meals, right?

Yes and No
No...not according to my neighbor (read my post on page 2 of this thread its the last one) yes your dinning card will say 2 adults and 1 child but the snacks, CS and sit down meals are the only thing that is kept track of. For example say you had a total of 9 sit down meals and you ordered 2 adult &1 kid meal from the menu then on your receipt it would say you have 6 table meals left...it does not say 4 adult table service left and 2 child table left..it lups them all together. Sorry if I'm not explaining this in an easy way.

Re: Dining plan....interesting quirk??

It's not going to mark the adult meals or kids meals - it's only going to credit her a certain number of meals.
She's paying for 3 adults, because she doesn't want him to order off of the child's menu - but, the people taking the order will have no clue WHAT she paid for.

Re: Dining plan....interesting quirk??

Well...actually the people taking her order will know what she paid for. But she's doing the right thing.

Her card will say "3A" (which tells them you paid for 3 adult dining plans). You DO have the same number of meals (all lumped together) if your card says "2A 1C" as you do if your card says "3A".

HOWEVER, if you have the "2A 1C" scenerio and you sit down with your 8 year old to eat they are going to tell you that he has to order off the childs menu. BUT, if you have the "3A" on your card they may ask how old he is and then you just say "we paid the adult DP price for him so he could eat a better selection of food" and they will understand. In either scenerio they will deduct 3 sit down meals from your bank of meals.

I think, based on how the child's eating habits have been described, that the right option has been chosen. You may have to show your card at the beginning of the meal, rather than just at the end, to show that you paid the adult price for all 3 of you - but it should work out as you have intended.

I agree with you!!!! Thanks for explaining it without being as wordy(sp?) as I was.

Re: Dining plan....interesting quirk??

Yep, I'm glad I've posted the senario, because now I know I've made the right choice. I was a little worried about wether or not they would know that we had indeed paid for the adult plan. Since it has been explained that my card will show 3 adults, now I really know I'm going to stick with it this way. We really just wanted to keep our options open after how it turned out last trip. My son really enjoys quite a variety of foods & this plan will ensure that we all enjoy ourselves without worying about the cost since it is taken take of before we go.
Thanks for clearing it up Allyson & Maria.

Oh, wow. I totally had the facts wrong. I was just afraid that she would pay for 3 adults, and then they might not let her child order from the adult menu...

I'm glad it will work out the way it needs to.

It's so refreshing to see someone wanting to do the right thing. That's pretty cool, Nancyk :c)

Re: Dining plan....interesting quirk??

Yes, I was actually afraid of the same thing. The last thing my boyfriend wants is to see me have it out with someone who is not going to give me something which I actually paid for in the fisrt place, LOL!!

That's exactly what we did with our DD on our last vacation Cincy. She just would not eat her own meal and is much happier sharing ours.
I don't want to think about 'cheating' Disney but at the same time, I am on vacation ~who on earth wants to spend their time planning out how to 'execute' this plan? I for one want to 'max' every minute I have there and being ruthless just to save a few bucks is not for me. I do sympathise and can see why the temptation is there Kizzmitt but i wouldn't do it........ Ps hope you stll like me now?!

Re: Dining plan....interesting quirk??

I don't think it is cheating -- you paid for a meal, and you paid extra for another meal. Since the dining plan is something you pay for anyway, I think it isn;t cheating.
