Spirit of Aloha vs. Hoop Dee Doo

We are going to WDW in October and will be staying at the CBR again. This time DW has decided to include meal vouchers as part of the WDW package. We are going to hit a WDW dinner show this time around and wanted to know which show would be worth our while: The Spirit of Aloha at the Poly or the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue?

I saw the Hoop Dee Doo MANY years ago (like 25 years ago) and it was a real hoot. Definately a can't miss type of show. I imagine it's been updated, so that's something you really oughta see. It generally gets very good reviews.

I've never seen the Luau, but it tends to get a lot of lukewarm reviews. It's very entertaining, but the food has been criticized for being inconsistent.

Really, you can't lose with either show, but to me, the Hoop Dee Doo is more of a can't miss.

Hoop de doo. Especially if there are any kids in your party. We go every year and it is a lot of fun for all ages.

IMHO --
For our family, the luau is NOT AS GOOD as a simple dinner at O'hana! The luau is a predictable show with not much interaction, and the food is so-so. Believe me, you will get plenty of tropical flair and fun at O'hana, so book yourselves there once, and then go to Hoop-De-Doo!! I have never been, but everyone seems to LOVE that experience!

Plus the luau is on Disney ground but not run by Disney -- which explains the unexpected non-friendly, non-Disney-style poor service at the luau. Don't know if Hoop-de-doo is run by Disney proper, but if it is we'd give it a shot.

Hoop De Doo - no question! Last saw it in November 2003 - was a real hoot and lots of fun...plus....the food was YUMMY!!! Best fried chicken I have had in a long time. Have a great time!!!

I went thru this same debate and chose Hoop dee doo and now it is a must do for us!! It is sooo fun, just pure hilarious entertainment!!! It is well worth the money!

I hear the Luau is good but not as good as HDD!!

Missdisney is right, you should do Hoop Dee Doo and have dinner at Ohana's. Ohana's is great!!

I have debated both also, we decided on the HOOP DEE DOO. Hope it was the right choice.

Hoop-de-Doo definately. We had a very bad experience at Spirit of Aloha. The food was not good IMHO, the service was downright rude and the show, except for the final act, I thought kind of dull. Just my opinion, of course. It was very crowded.

We've never done SoA but do HDR every trip (one of our traditions) and love it.

As much as I adore the Polynesian resort (and Polynesian culture!) the luau doesn't interest me too much...'Ohana is awesome enough for me. So I can't give a firsthand opinion on the luau.

But I LOVE the Hoop-De-Doo!

It is a MUST DO for me! Kooky, cheesy, fun...with LOADS of bellyache food! OH YEAH.

Pass the strawberry shortcake please!

We did the Luau our last night and now I wish we had done Hoop Dee Doo. Little DS was literally falling asleep 3/4 of the way through the dinner show. They told us to be there by 4:45 with dinner/show starting at 5:15. Well, they didn't start letting anyone to their tables until 5:15! We did get a front row seat, which was the best part of it. Food was so so, show was ho hum. Unfortunately, we left before the final act. Next time we weill definitely opt for HDD if we even do a dinner/show. Breakfast at O'Hana was wonderful, so my guess is dinner would be just as great. Good luck in making your decision!

The food was not good IMHO, the service was downright rude and the show, except for the final act, I thought kind of dull. Just my opinion, of course.
