Character Breakfasts
Me and my family have planned for a May trip to WDW.
This will be my daughter's (6) and my son's (almost 3) first time. Not only are my wife and I in agreement that a 6' tall GOOFY will scare the be-jeshes out of my son, but my daughter would love to have a 'girly' character instead. Any suggestions on a restaurant where the character breakfast/dinner would be more appropriate? |

Andrew,
I've got 2 suggestions... 1900 Park Fare at Grand Floridian offers a breakfast with Alice & a few others. The dinner...depending on the publication...either offers Beauty and the Beast or Disney Villians. I think if you call the Priority Seating number, they'll help you out. It sounds like she'd love the Breakfast at Cinderalla's Castle in Magic Kingdom...but... It sounds like you have to call exactly (and I mean EXACTLY) at 7:00 AM EST, 60 Days previous to your visit, to make priority seatings and HOPE the cosmic tumblers click into place for you. Evidently, it features the Princesses. It seems like everywhere else either offers Mickey & Co. or Pooh & Co. When we went in 1995-1996, there was more variety. Bruce |

Character Meals
Although the characters are large, I'd suggest The Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom. It offers a terrific assortment of foods on their buffets (including kid-friendly food such as pizza, chicken nuggets, mac & cheese) And, the characters are all Winnie the Pooh-related. Kids are usually comfortable around the Pooh characters, too. And, the characters are very good at reading the kids. They don't intimidate kids that appear frightened, etc. If you plan to try it out, I suggest that you make reservations since it is a popular place. Have fun!

Cinderella's castle breakie
I just wanted to give another nudge toward's Cinderalla's castle for their character breakfast. We did it a year ago and it was great! (We called the day before and got in but according to this board of experts - don't risk it)
All the princesses are there and the Prince is there with Jasmine. The princesses all come to your table and sit and chat and take pix and sign autographs. We took our 3 daughters and the two older ones were 4 and turning 7 then - they loved it! The pictures are beautiful, too. Oh, and the food isn't too shabby either. Have fun!:)

Hints on Booking Cinderellas Royal Table
First of all, make sure you have the correct day to call (60 days exactly in advance). Call the dining line #407-939-3463 and start calling a bit before 7:00 EASTERN time, don't forget the Time Zone differences (like we almost did). Just keep hitting redial. If you get a message then hang up and immediately hit redial again. We had our cell phone and regular phone. My husband and I both were calling, I heard a long pause and hung up and never did get back through, my husband heard a long pause, waited, and made the reservation.
When they answer give them the information quickly....Cinderellas Royal Table Breakfast, date, and say first available time. With any luck you'll get a CM who knows exactly what to do. Remember, there are several operators and concierge gets first dibs, so there are limited numbers who get in. I have known people who call at 7:01 and it's booked. So make sure to have the redial set. Another tip I got is, a lot of times people will have several from their family calling and making the reservation. Disney will go through (I've heard) and throw out duplicates, or call to see if it's a duplicate. So call a few hours later and you might get one of the cancellations. Just don't give up. You never know when there will be a cancellation. And like Cinderelafifi said, she got in the day before, so don't give up even when you get there. I guess you can't tell we took booking the Castle Very Seriously:p :angel Good luck with whatever reservations you make.

Does anyone know if you can do a Fantasmic Preferred Seating at Hollywood and Vine for the character lunch, or does that work for dinner only

Becca, welcome to DisneyCentral. Fortunately, the Disney characters have plenty of experience with frightened children. With our little kids, we found it was best to observe them from afar for a while, and then went they felt comfortable with that, to then go for the visit. Their curiosity usually takes over eventually.
