Best dining for a boy's 5th birthday

We will be arriving in Disney on my son's 5th birthday and I just wanted to ask what the best place for dinner for him would be? We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge and he would think it was cool if people made a big fuss over it. We have park hopper tickets but I'm not sure what time we are getting in, probably after 1pm (no plane tickets yet).

Also does anyone know if the hotel will do anything special? If they don't automatically is there a way I can call and ask them to put stuff (balloons and a banner) in our room? I would be willing to pay a little extra for it since it would thrill him. Thanks...

First of all - welcome to DC! My first inclination would be Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Hotel. It's a good buffet with lots of choices, Mickey & the Gang - and it's a wild, fun time. Whispering Canyon also get's high marks from lots of people - I'm sure some member here can fill you in on what happens there and if you can get some "extras" for a birthday.

Welcome to DC!!! You will love WL!!!! Either restaurant would be fine, but the Whipering Canyon is a loud restaurant the does fun stuff for kids. I bet that they would do a lot for his birthday. About the room and balloons, I know that there is a pamplet of stuff that you can order that gets sent with your information about your reservation, but I would call the hotel and make a request. Also, double check this request a few days before your arrival because i have heard of people making requests for stuff and it doesn't always make it into the room... Have a great trip

Welcome to DisneyCentral! You will love WL, it's my favorite resort.

I think Chef Mickey's is a great place for a birthday dinner. I am sure if you mention the birthday he will get a cupcake or some other special treat. A character breakfast is a great way to start off a WDW trip.

Welcome to DisneyCentral! I agree with taking your son to Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Resort! We took our sons there in 2003 and the staff gave them buttons that said "Today Is My Birthday", and the characters made a big fuss over them too! Lots of pictures and autographs! My boys LOVED it! What a great time!

Welcome.

CHEF MICKEY's

My son had his 4th birthday at CM this past January. We loved the character interaction & the special attention he got being a birthday boy (Make sure to get a birthday pin at City Hall in the Magic Kingdom!).

Another vote for CM! When you make your ressie be sure to tell them it's a b-day, and remind them at the podium at check in.

And another for CM!

You do need to eat at the Whispering Canyons, too. Ask for ketchup.

If you mention the birthday to the CM who checks you into your resort, they will make a note of it and they will have balloons and an autographed Birthday card sent to your room on the big day.

The birthday button from the parks will get him loads of attention from all the CMs all day long. Be sure to pick it up early in the day!

Re: Best dining for a boy's 5th birthday

And, if you're a birthday button collector, there are three different ones. Epcot has one, Animal Kingdom has one, and the MK and MGM share the same one. However, according to a CM a couple weeks ago, MGM might be getting their very own one later this year.
