Children's meal age change.

I am sorry if this has been posted, I couldn't find it here.

I read at allearsnet that effective July 1st, 'children' are 3-9 years, not 3-11 years.

Here is the link http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm

I have an 11 year old, and I was thinking the meal plan was not right for our family, as he could order off the kids menu if he wanted, and he'd be a child's price at the character meals (so the adult price we'd pay for his meal plan wasn't worth it). With this no longer being the case, I may have to rethink the meal plan.

I just wanted to pass this along so people can change their budget if they need to. At an additional $10 (minimum) for an adult meal could really add up over a week if you aren't expecting it.

Again, sorry if this had already been posted and I'm not seeing it

Re: Children's meal age change.

Not many places enforce it. I order off the kid's menu on occasion, and I've never been given a hard time. I do it for several reasons - to keep my portions down, or possibly because it's the only thing I want to eat. I did it on one occasion at a seafood restaurant, and I don't eat fish. (it wasn't my choice to go there)

Besides, if your child looks young, not many places will ask for proof of age. Not many people can truly tell the difference between a 9 and an 11 year old.

However, I don't know how the meal plan works, if the vouchers are specifically for kid's meals. If that's the case, I'd tell them when you book that he is 9, not 11.

I'm in the "just fudge it" camp. My 9 year old couldn't eat an adult-size meal anyway.

Re: Children's meal age change.

I understand that they changed the ages to align with the meal plan but it really messes up those of us that aren't on the plan. Now at character breakfasts and buffets, dinner shows, etc. i will have to pay adult price for my 10 year old. I think that stinks!!

Re: Children's meal age change.

I called on this and was told that the 3-11 was still effective at least for the character meals, and as far as the CM knew there was no changes for the 3-11 in the workings.

Well, that's good to hear. I have the opposite problem: my 10 yr old looks like a teen, he's so big! Not to mention he can eat like one. But if I can get by paying the children's price for him at the character meals then it evens out, since I'll eat WAY less than him.

Re: Children's meal age change.

I think it's mentally a smart move on Disney's side. More adults will order the adult size for kids over 9 because of the age listed. I doubt they will enforce it, but most will follow it. That, or just share one meal with their child.

I have said it before and will say it again... Cast rarely know what is going on until after it happens.

Re: Children's meal age change.

My 10 year old looks 8. I am usually one for following the rules, but I would just HAVE to say he's 9. He does NOT eat enough to buy a kids meal, and he still eats little kid choices. (Hamburger, only ketchup w/ a few fries and a coke, please) <--- and don't even THINK of changing it!
So, I know for sure I'd tell them my son is 9. I think it should be a case by case basis. He just...he's so tiny! It would truly be a waste of our money to order him an adult meal.

I doubt you will have to tell an age at the counter service and buffets. Coral Reef, for example, may ask.

Heck, as long as the kids don't call you "Mom" in front of the CMs, you could pass for a 9yo yourself! I mean, 9's only three years younger than 12...

Re: Children's meal age change.

I have read some reports on other boards where people are being charged double if an older child orders off the kid's menu. I don't see what it matters, if someone wants a smaller meal go for it. My 7 year old eats very little and I don't see that changing anytime soon, I would hate to pay $10 for chicken nuggets.

That's about what we paid in Donald's Restaurantosaurus. If it wasn't $10, it was close...

I love the meal plan. Saves SOOOO much money!

Re: Children's meal age change.

I would mind too much if I knew my DS would eat them. Most places charge about $5 for kid's meals, I think that's very reasonable.

Re: Children's meal age change.

. . . Disney Packing Checklist . . .
Sunscreen - Check!
Sunglasses - Check!
Unofficial Guide - Check!
Birth Certificates for all the kids - Check!
DNA Samples for Verification - . . . .

- this will be tough to enforce and will be governed by the honor system. Its not likely a CM is going to debate the logistics of our childbirthing schedules/calendars even if they tried they'd stand down at the first hint of an angry customer - Not worth it.

Re: Children's meal age change.

I really don't see much of a problem. When we order at counterservice, we usually go find a table and leave my dh to do the ordering. How are they going to know if you have a child or not. We've certainly never been questioned. My 22 year old has an appetite of a bird. She usually nibbles off our plates, but once in a while she'll order a children's meal. Personally, in this day and age, with so much of the world starving, I think it's positively sinful to waste food.

I was asked the ages of all the kids in our group for each PS I made. If people are going to lie about ages they will have to plan ahead. I'm too honest, I will never lie to save a few bucks, it sends the wrong message to my son. I don't think it's an issue at counter service places but buffets and family style places are different.

I always plan on paying for my DS at buffets even though there isn't one food there he will eat. Sometimes we are not charged and that's nice but not expected.
