Opinions on Restaurant Choices Please

ATTENTION - COMING OUT OF LURKING STATUS - RED ALERT!

Hi all,

Returning to WDW in Sept to take advantage of free dining promo. We've been to Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace before but not much else as far as sit down meals. I've been studying Allears Menus and reading your posts to try to make a plan. I have made a ps for almost every night so that we always have a plan and aren't going crazy trying to find dinner. If we get side-tracked, we are okay with having to cancel but we like having something planned. Also, I almost always made the ps for the time the restaurant opened, just so that there would be less likey a need to wait for a table. We have a two year old and a four year old and waiting is not their strong suits! We are thinking we can head to dinner right after their naps and then on to more fun. So here is what we have:

Wed Sept 21 Boma's 5:00pm
Thur Sept 22 Crystal Palace 8:05am
Thur Sept 22 Le Cellier 4:00pm
Fri Sept 23 O'hanas 5:00pm
Sat Sept 24 Spoodles 5:00pm
Sun Sept 25 Les Chefs de France 5:00pm
Mon Sept 26 Cindy's Castle 8:05am YAY!!
Mon Sept 26 Concourse Steakhouse 5:40pm
Tues Sept 27 Marrakesh 4:30pm
Wed Sept 28 Liberty Tree Tavern 5:50pm
Thur Sept 29 Mitsukoshi Teppanyaki 4:30pm
Fri Sept 30 no meals planned/hope to eat at Food and Wine Fest all day
Sat Oct 1 Chef Mickey's 5:10pm (if we decide to stay late)

Thanks for any help or comments!

Oh and by the way, welcomes are not necessary but nice!

-Janice

Hi, Janice! Welcome to the posting side of the street! :)

Your PSs look great -- you've got a lot of variety in there. Are your kids adventurous eaters? Marrakesh and Mitsukoshi might throw them for a loop (they all have kids' menus, of course, but Marrakesh's kids' menu is still pretty ethnic).

How old are your kids? For me it seems a little too much "sit down meals" for the younger set, what do others think?

I think they will go for the chicken tenders at Marrakesh and noodles at Mitsukoshi. My two year old likes the Indian restaurant here but who knows how authentic it really is compared to Marrakesh. And they both like all kinds of noodles so I hope they will be okay at Mitsukoshi.

We have Tangierine Cafe down as one of the counter service meals to try!

Oh and by the way, congrats on the engagement! I was still in the lurking mode then but it certainly sounded romantic!

I agree actually. We normally wouldn't have one every day but with the free dining promo it is hard to resist. We don't want to just NOT use them.

Also, that is one of the reasons why we scheduled them early in the day shortly after nap times so they will be in better moods. One is two and the other four.

The only other way I see of using the sit down meals up without using one everyday is going to a lot of "two punch meals" and I don't think they are ready for the shows yet or something too-too nice like Narcoossee's. What do you think?

Re: Opinions on Restaurant Choices Please

Welcome Janice (my, what a nice name you have. )

You've certainly got a lot of great places on your list. Personally the Marrakesh is one of our favourite restaurants and the food there is really pretty simple. It runs to chicken, rice, vegetables. I guess the way I'd go at it would be to suggest the ones to eliminate if your plans don't work out. For me those would be the Concourse Steakhouse, and maybe Boma's and Chefs de France (although that's another fav. of ours)

At two and four they'll enjoy the bellydancer at Marrakesh, and the fun & games at O'hana's. I'd definitely keep LeCellier, not only because it's probably the best food at WDW, but the servers are also great with kids. It's a relaxed atmosphere.

Glad you're not lurking anymore!

Re: Opinions on Restaurant Choices Please

WElcome out from lurking. Glad you are posting. You have excellent choices there and I can't think of one I'd change there. One a day is a good idea and two on some days won't hurt. I like that you are flexible and are willing to cancel if the mood isn't right at the time. I also tend to get early seating for the same reason you do. Waiting is not my strong suit either, so I understand your DK...lol

I think CM, LTT, and CP are okay for small kids--laid back, kid-friendly food, casual atmosphere, and characters. Marrakesh I don't know about and Chefs might challenge kid patience. Teppan is really entertaining for kids a bit older, don't know how small kids will respond.

Re: Opinions on Restaurant Choices Please

Ohana & Liberty Tree Tavern were our two favorites of our last trip. I really thing LTT is the best value, since it's really kid friendly fare and the character interaction was great!

Your PS list looks as long as mine did for our trip, but we wound up canceling a few at the end of our trip due to the fact that min $200 a sit down meal was becoming taxing. We wound up missing Chef Mickey's ~ my big regret ~ but there is always next trip!
