Mickey's backyard barbeque

Going in October and wanted to go to Mickey's backyard barbeque, is it too late for a PS and has anyone been there to give their opinion on how the food is, etc.

Re: Mickey's backyard barbeque

I don't think you will have too much trouble booking the BBQ for October. We went to the BBQ a couple of years ago and the food was yummy! We went in July and it was just too hot to truly enjoy enjoy the food but it was really good. I thought hte food was better than the food at the HDD, however, the HDD is cooler in July.

Re: Mickey's backyard barbeque

We were there last summer and the food was really good. You can keep getting up and going back to the buffet at your leisure, which is nice. The show is fun, too. The kids can go up to the characters and dance with them. It is pretty loud, though. My 3 year old DS didn't really like how loud the music was (he has problems with loud noises). We had to yell to talk to eachother at the table. Other than that, the family really enjoyed it and we'll probably go again sometime in the future.

Re: Mickey's backyard barbeque

I may have to rethink doing this. When I first started planning our trip, I had heard alot of negative reviews about it and how it was too crowded and not worth the money. How do you think it will be in December?

Re: Mickey's backyard barbeque

December should be less crowded than July and I didn't think it was packed when we went. We wanted a table near the edge because it was so hot. We didn't have to share our table with anyone and had more than enough room. My DS didn't want to do any of the activities but we did dance a couple of times. We also met some of the characters with no waiting.

I think if there is something you want to do at WDW do it. Read the reviews but make your own decision, reviews are great but we all have different opinions of what's good.

Get there plenty early if you want a center table where you can see all the action. You are seated as you walk in so the closer you are to the front of the line the more tables you have to pick from. You fill your plate as you walk in so you won't have to get in another line to eat.

Re: Mickey's backyard barbeque

We've done it 2 or three times now & of the 3 dinner shows it's our favorite. I like the flexibility of being able to get up & move around, the band is always great, & everyone has a great time. We had some friends who were just there last week. They did Backyard & loved it, too! When you call to make reservations though they do charge your card right away. If you cancel within a certain time period they'll give you a complete refund though.

Re: Mickey's backyard barbeque

We loved Mickey's BBQ. They suggest you get there early because the first in line are the first to choose their seats. Also, the characters will come out and mingle a bit and the MC CM's are hysterical. There are picnic tables in rows so if you have little ones that need a highchair, try to get a table at the end. The food is good, typical picnic fair (hot dogs, chicken, ribs, corn bread, corn etc). The characters do not go to the tables so if you want to get autographs and photos, you have to go to the dance floor. The kids get to dance with the characters too. They have a western band, a rope slinger and they teach you line dancing. It really is a lot of fun!

Re: Mickey's backyard barbeque

Check the time of year its offered, if I remember correctly its not a year round event.

I know everyone has their own opinion but we went to the Backyard BBQ 2 years ago in July and really didn't care for it at all. We did however love the Hoop Dee Doo. Our DD was 3 at the time and she just took off to go on the dance floor and was dancing along with the 100 other people there - it was very hard to keep track of her and get her to eat!! The entertainment was good, but the food was very ordinary for the price. We did alot of character meal buffets that trip (Crystal Palace, 1900 Park Faire, Chef Mickeys, etc) and this was our least favorite meal. We also really enjoyed the food and the entertainment at HDD. Like I said everyone had their own opinion and I've read here of alot of people liking the BBQ.
