Advice on timing - flight vs. dinner reservation
Asking this question to all experienced mouseketeers - - Our flight lands at approximately 2:30PM in Orlando. We have 5:00PM dinner reservations. Am I cutting it too close or do you think I will be okay?

Re: Advice on timing - flight vs. dinner reservation
Depending on if you are doing the Magical Express, renting a car or using a service, you could make it in time. With Magical Express, you don't have to wait for your luggage and they bring you right to your resort. We rented a car and by the time we landed, got our luggage, rented the car, stopped at the grocery store and checked in, it took about 1-1 1/2 hours. Then again, we landed at 11:30pm.

Re: Advice on timing - flight vs. dinner reservation
Landing at 2:30 and having a 5pm dining reservation is going to be cutting it REALLY close. I would try and get that time bumped up to 6:30. This will allow you plenty of time to get to your resort, check in and take your time to get settled and to your restaurant. You have to factor in any delays your flight may have, at least two hours from the time you land until the time you check-in, time to get in your room and then time to get to the place to eat. Do yourself a favor and schedule it much later.

Re: Advice on timing - flight vs. dinner reservation
I just changed ours. We were going to land at 6:15 and the latest dinner we could get was at 8:00. I called back and cancelled it, cutting it to close for me. Instead we will grab a bite at the hotel and maybe go for a swim to relax after our flight.

Re: Advice on timing - flight vs. dinner reservation
We're landing at 7:00 and taking a towncar to our resort, which, when all goes smoothly, takes about an hour from the time we step off of the plane to the time we check-in at our resort. The problem is, you can never count on everything going smoothly! Then, if you have to settle into your room, wait for a bus to the restaurant, or figure out WDW roadways in your rental car, that could add at least an hour or more to your total (if your reservations are at another resort, don't forget that you'd have to catch a bus to a park, and then another bus to the resort).
As I said, we're landing at 7:00, but I'm not willing to make a PS any earlier than 10:00 for dinner. If the restaurant is IN your resort, you may be able to make it with the 2 1/2 hour time window you've allotted. With all the potential "what ifs," you just never know. Good luck!

Re: Advice on timing - flight vs. dinner reservation
I would definitely reschedule. Philadelphia is a busy, crowded airport, and traveling is stressful enough without having to worry about making your PS.

Re: Advice on timing - flight vs. dinner reservation
I flew out of PHL last year with US AIR and got to my PS LATE!!
Thankfully, they let us check in. My PS was at Ohana's btw. US AIR was late, flight overbooked and did NOT put anybody's luggage on the plane!!!! We waited for the next flight in from PHL and we got HALF our luggage, we finally gave up, put a baggage claim in and ran to the rental car counter. We also got the LAST intermediate car btw. I will NEVER fly US AIR again!!!!! So definately allow yourself next time. I also did not know by way around being my first time at WDW, so I had to get directions to the POLY and when we got there, had trouble finding parking and ran to the restaurant! What a day!!!! The rest of our luggage showed up at our room around 12:30am, thank god!

Re: Advice on timing - flight vs. dinner reservation
From a Travel Agent perspective...I would say that is cutting it a bit close. To never have any problems the best thing to do is plan on everything going wrong lol
Plan on your flight being delayed an hour...plan on it taking an hour to get your luggage...plan on the shuttle losing your reservation and having to wait for the next one...as long as you do that then nothing will ever go wrong because you will have planned for everything! :) Of course 95% of the time you'll end up with way more time, but to me thats better than not having enough time and getting stressed out.

Re: Advice on timing - flight vs. dinner reservation
We always try to fly Air Tran out of Philly. On 7/11 we landed at MCO a half hour early. Then we waited about 25 minutes for the luggage. Philly was very busy security line were backed up, some people were freaking out they had twenty minutes to get to there gate. The line moved pretty quickly. If you are flying out early make sure you give yourself at least two hours. What I am saying is that your were smart to change your advanced seating time

Re: Advice on timing - flight vs. dinner reservation
Last time I went to WDW, we landed at 4:30 PM and I made a PS at 'Ohana for 7:00 PM. TOO CLOSE.
Won't do that again!!I was kind of amazed...everything from getting our luggage, to the towncar, to check-in at All-Star Movies went extremely smoothly! But it still was not enough time. We barely had time to drop our luggage in our room, change, take a few pictures of the resort...then we went to wait for a bus to the MK...then take the monorail over to the Poly...and we arrived ten minutes late! ![]() So I guess it really depends how far your resort is from the place you're going to eat dinner. But I would say that 2-1/2 hours just isn't enough. I really thought we had enough time to do stuff, but it was too close for comfort. I would have much rathered have extra time to hang at the resort than be rushing like we were, after hours and hours of traveling! Added too much frenzy to an already tiring day. ![]()

Re: Advice on timing - flight vs. dinner reservation
Soccermom- I don't know how your getting from WDW or if you have any plans to check in at your resort first but I think you are maybe cutting it a little too close.
I did this last trip and I think I allowed 3 hours.... I had a Quicksilver towncar service so it took us to our grocery stop then to check in at POFQ. We checked in and checked our luggage and then for $10 more Quicksilver waited for us and took us over to the Contemporary for our PS at Chef Mickey's.
