Suggestion for First Night in Disney?

We arrive at WDW on December 17th at noon so I'm thinking that we can walk over to DTD for a bite at Earl of Sandwich, (we're staying at Saratoga Springs). However, I'm looking for something special to do for dinner.

I just can't seem to make up my mind!

My brother and sis-in-law have never been to Disney and, while I would like to take them to a character meal, I think I need to ease them in. I was thinking maybe 'Ohana?

Re: Suggestion for First Night in Disney?

We've never been to Ohana. It sounds like it would be more of an adult character dining experience then the others.
My friends went this may and said try to get a seat up front!
We like LTT for character dining.
Have a great time.

Re: Suggestion for First Night in Disney?

For your first night in Disney you should go to the Floridian and eat at Narcoossee's, watch the water parade from your table

What about an evening at the Boardwalk? Flying Fish is an excellent choice for dinner then you can stroll the boardwalk. 'Ohana is also very good.

Re: Suggestion for First Night in Disney?

ohana's is great (well the old menu) but something I'd hold off for maybe a couple nights into it. Kiona Cafe at Poly has a great menu and is on my to do list, so you may wanna check that. How about whispering canyon at WL? That was fun and the portions were very good. I'm not sure your budget or the type of people you are, which is why I'm not sure if I'd recommend anything at GF. First night at WDW GF might be a little too grand of a place, something best to tackle after you've seen its beauty from the monorail. I do recommend the Cb at 1900 park fare at the GF, its not too kiddy and the food is great!!
I know what you mean though how you want something to evoke the disney experience. I've never been, but the California grill gets very high remarks from lots of people and thats somewhere I would go, so I could watch the castle and fireworks. DT has a great idea about boardwalk, there is a variety of places there. I've been to Big river brewery and after a long day of traveling, there's nothing better than their beer sampler, Pale ale!!

Ohana's has a character meal at breakfast only. But its a great dinner meal, and you can also watch the water parade from there.

Re: Suggestion for First Night in Disney?

Why not do the boardwalk or the Floridian like EJ suggested, and then do the Epcot loop on the monorail, to get you in the mood for the next day!

Re: Suggestion for First Night in Disney?

For my first night on my first Disney trip we are going to Ohana's. Does anyone know what time the water parade is, or does it vary? After Ohana's we plan on going to DTD for disney quest. I got tickets early. My two sons will love the place.

Our first night we are doing Hoop Dee Doo!! I cannot wait to start our trip that way!!

I think it comes by the Poly at around 9.

I think it depends on what time Wishes! is on a particular evening...but I may be wrong. I think when we were there we saw it from the Poly about 9:30? If you're there for the fireworks you won't miss it!

Re: Suggestion for First Night in Disney?

Let me just add that you need to check and double check the ELP times when you're there. We've missed it several times using the times I found posted on the internet. And every time I ask a CM they tell me something different.

Re: Suggestion for First Night in Disney?

Same time last year we got there in the afternoon and took a short swim and walked around POFQ grounds a bit.
Took the bus to MK, then the boat over to the Poly for dinner at Ohana.
After dinner we took the monorail to the Grand Floridian and took pics and looked at the Christmas decor.
Rode the monorail around once then took the bus back to POFQ.
Nice leisurely day and back to the hotel for early bedtimes so we would be ready to storm MK first thing in the a.m.
