1900 PF is in The Grand Floridian resort. The breakfast is with Mary Poppins and friends and dinner is with Cindy and friends, probably not your first choice for an 8 year old boy.
Mickey's Backyard BBQ is in Fort Wilderness Campground and is a dining plan restaurant. I think this sounds like a great choice.

O'Hana is good, Crystal Palace, Breakfastasaurus at AK, Cape May Cafe at Beach Club, and Mickey's Backyard BBQ was a lot of fun. All appropriate for boys and girls.

My DS got sooooooooo much attention at CRT!! He loved it and thought he was Prince Charming! Now, he is a good sport and doesn't get embarressed easily, so I think you have to take that into consideration!

Not a character meal, but my 10yr old DS thinks the Hoop Dee Doo is the best thing he's ever seen at WDW.

Hoop Dee Doo? What's that? The name alone sounds fun! Where is it? Can you use the dining plan and go there?

The Hoop Dee Doo is a dinner show at Fort Wilderness. It's is a great show if you like corny humor. We have been twice, once with two 6 year olds and again with a 5, 7, 11, and 17 year old. They all liked it and laughed the whole show. This show is quickly becoming a must do for us, we have really enjoy it.

The food is pretty good; fried chicken, ribs, corn, baked beans, bread, and the best strawberry shortcake I have ever had. HDD counts as 2 meals on the dining plan.

It is outside. We went a couple of years ago and it was really hot, too hot to enjoy. I won't do it again in July but it was fun and the food was good.

Is Hoop Dee Doo outside also? Do you have to have special transportation to get there or can you take the Disney buses?

Hoop Dee Doo is inside. You take a bus from the front of FW to the where Hoop Dee Doo is. They are Disney Buses that operate in the campground. Alsoi, if you like the food. You can get it next door the next night for a lot cheaper. All the food for the for the Hoop Dee Doo Revue is prepared at Trails End and they even serve some of the same food. It also costs a lot less too. of course, there isn't a show, but after you've seen the show, just go back to Trail's End and get the food. It's a buffet, and it's great. One of the better bargains at Disney. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Yup, it's outside under covered area. They serve BBQ food, chicken, burgers, corn on cob, etc. They have a country band and you can dance w/the characters.

The Hoop Dee Doo is great mu DS(5) and DD(3) loved it. Tha food is good and its a kind of corny show but it is a must do for us again

This past May we stayed at All Star Movies and it was no problem getting there. Ask a CM at the lobby desk and they will tell you the best way to get there from any place on the property that you will be.
