Business Casual - Dress shorts?

We're eating at Artist Point and California Grill this trip... Allears reports the new dress code like this:
Quote:
Upscale resort restaurants change dress code to Business Casual! No hats, swim suits, swim suit coveralls, tank tops, T-shirts, torn clothing or flip-flops. You can wear - dress shorts, pants, jean pants, collared shirts, blouses, sweaters, pants. Restaurants now requiring Business Casual include: Artist Point (Wilderness Lodge), California Grill (Contemporary), Citricos and Narcoossee's (Grand Floridian), Jiko (Animal Kingdom Lodge), Flying Fish (Boardwalk), and Yachtsman Steakhouse (Yacht Club).
I'm clueless about this stuff... what in the heck are "dress shorts?"

Bruce

Re: Business Casual - Dress shorts?

dress shorts are like like the pants but shorter. Not jean or track shorts....I consider them dressy shorts. You may be best off with a casual pant and perhaps a collared polo shirt....I am not making sense here. like dockers pants, but they come in shorts...can't remember what they are called....ahhh

lol, basically, the shorts they sell in the men's dept at Sears and JC Penny, etc. Similar in style to golf shorts.

Thanks Dana and Victoria! Oh, okay... Even I can handle that!

So the first one is good... and the second one is bad?

I agree with what was said above. Docker-style shorts are appropriate-not the denim.

Is "khaki's" the word you are looking for? I was wondering the same thing as we are going to the Yachtsman. So I guess it is the same thing for women. I purchased some new black khaki's (although they do have a cargo pocket on the side but done very tastefully) and a new black and white blouse.

Re: Business Casual - Dress shorts?

We have been to both in the last week and all I can say is not very many people take any notice of the dress code. The Cal grill is a bit more dressy but the YSH we have seen tracky pants, flip flops, jeans, and football shirts! I was very disappointed!

On a plus side the people who make the effort seem to be seated together, or maybe thats just the luck of the draw.

We are now off to chef Mickeys for our final dinner at the world!

I do like it when people make an attempt to look nice for dinner...makes the meal more enjoyable to me some how... I have been guilty of the jeans shorts and track pants however...but not at the real nice places.

We did see them turn someone away at the Cali Grill b/c their teenage son was wearing a t-shirt with cut-off sleeves...I think the dress code is good for the select few restaurants -- it definitely adds to the evening!

(and I would have said "khaki shorts"...i just wasn't here in time!!)

Re: Business Casual - Dress shorts?

To be honest, at first I was bummed about the policy. One of the things that I've always loved about WDW is that I'm able to hit the parks and go directly to a very nice sit down meal. I'm one of THOSE; I hate to dress up.

But... this dress policy is totally acceptable...and really borders on common sense.

BTW... I have read elsewhere that California Grill is the biggest stickler on the new policy.

Re: Business Casual - Dress shorts?

I seriously think wearing a nice owfit, which in my eyes is still casual clothes, is a nice idea. Some attempt should be made to look presentable at the nicer restaurants. If you are going to pay all that money for a meal, you mine as well look nice doing it. I am a total sweat pants and super casual dresser, but even I try to dress a little nicer at the more expensive places.
