I actually asked Disney Dining about this and was told that they won't randomly cancel one--who knows if there are two guests with the same name or not? But reservationists will NOT make two ADRs for the same time slot on the same phone call. I always have to call a second time to make my "backup ADRs."

Booking under a different phone number is a good idea though, because they pull up your ADRs by phone number (to my limited knowledge). If you have a particularly rule-abiding reservationist, they may not make another ADR if they see you've already got one booked for that time slot.

Re: Does anyone do "backup" ADRs? And a few questions.

I guess I'm a bit old fashioned, but I think its a bit unfair myself. If you are on this forum, then you are already an ultra fan. Most of the people using reservations are the general public without the idea of the 180 window in their head. Imagine what would happen if everyone stated making multiple reservations. Restaurants may reqire a deposit like the Cinderella breakfast. Would you reserve two parking spaces at the mall at Christmas time because you want to choose where to park at the last minute? Meanwhile a family of four drives around and around past all of the "this spot reserved". I also feel that you should cancel ADR's the moment you know your not going there. Imagine how bummed you would feel if your plans change and there is no space available for a tuesday night. Will you wonder how many of the spots are taken up with multiple ADRs? Whats next...Booking a meal at every park and resort at every meal to insure a space. Mabye we have a moral obligation to help those who don't have some of the knowledge that we do.
Well enough preaching for now :).

My backups are Planet Hollywood and ESPN because they do not require reservations.

I was thinking the same thing - I got nervous for you.

I think it's OK to have a back-up - just be sure to cancel it once you know for sure to give other people a shot (I probably don't have to say that though - I'm sure you'd do that anyway )

You could also make one in your name and one in Daniel's just to be sure they won't cancel one before you're ready.

OK - now I feel stupid - I just realized this thread is nore than two years old!

Hey Wishy - what did you end up doing?

I have no clue, I don't even know which trip this was for. I guess that means you go to WDW too much, right?

Re: Does anyone do "backup" ADRs? And a few questions.

In all my time, I've only had one or two back up reservations and one of them was a back up in case I didn't get le Cellier (I didn't, but the back up was Coral Reef, which I changed also).
Remember, if everyone makes 3 back up reservations and don't cancel them, three other families might not get to eat where they want.

Re: Does anyone do "backup" ADRs? And a few questions.

Yes, sometimes we do that. Such as, with Le Cellier, my brother loves there and every year we try to get it for him, and ideally we like to eat late, so sometimes if they give us an afternoon reservation we'll take it and have a back up restuarant with a later reservation. And then sit down and decide whether its worth eating earlier in some where we'd love to eat. Or eating at the time we want to dine at in a restuarant that we also want to dine at. But just remember to CANCEL! FOr others and yourself. They charge you a few for not cancelling reservations. :]

There's never a mod when you need one.
I think Bella has permission to moderate the restaurants forum.
