Does anyone do "backup" ADRs? And a few questions.
I was just wondering if anyone does "backup" ADRs; meaning making maybe two ADRs for dinner at the same times then deciding which to cancel once you are there? I can't decide if this is a "good" thing to do or a kinda selfish thing to do. On one hand I think it's kinda impolite b/c you are holding a spot at one that you KNOW you aren't going to use when other families that want to dine there can't get an ADR. On the other hand, when you cancel, you are opening that up for a family who maybe DIDN'T have an ADR and are "standing by" to get one.
I can make my ADRs for August this Monday so I am trying to decide if I want to make a few of those "backups" or not. What do you think? Also, two questions... 1) Does anyone know what time (EST) the dining lines open on weekdays? 2) Can you now make your WHOLE WEEKS worth of ADRs on the first day of the 160 window? THANK YOU. Here is our ADR list, btw (all dinner)... - Teppanyaki Dining - Big River Grill & Brewery - Ohana - Liberty Tree - Le Cellier - Hollywood & Vine - Raglan Road or Trail's End for Breakfast (can't decide)

Re: Does anyone do "backup" ADRs? And a few questions.
I have never done the backup ADR,s but I usually go in Jan, when you can find somewhere to eat if things don't work out.
The phone lines open at EXACTLY 7AM EST ( You know this if you have ever tried to get a breakfast at CRT, they even tell you to go to the national time of day site to make sure your clock is correct.) When I made mine for Jan, I could make the whole week on the first day. Good luck!

I am one of those horrible people who make "backup" ADRs--usually because two members of the party can't decide on which places to book!
Question #1: 7:00am Question #2: You can make ADRs for your whole week at 180 days out now, I believe, as long as you have a Disney hotel reservation number.

Re: Does anyone do "backup" ADRs? And a few questions.
I have heard that if you have two ADR's in the same name they will randomly cancel one..so be sure to use two different names and phone numbers!
I dont think backup ADR's are a big deal..I think they're pretty smart actually..we've done them a few times when we are not exactly sure where we want to eat or where we'll be..most people are planning these things close to 6 months in advance..a girl can change her mind by then!

Let's just call it what it is...overbooking. Doctors do it, airlines do it, hotels do it. Why not DCers who want to be SURE to get the dinner they want, nay the dinner they DESERVE!!! This great country was built on just such ingenuity, strategy and fortitude. Be PROUD to overbook! <<<humming God Bless America>>>

Wish, you did notice the window for booking is 180 days and not 160, right? I want to be sure it was just a typo and you didn't figure your dates out wrong.

Yes, Ddoll, I DID mean 180. Apparantly I was really stuck on 160 b/c I made that typo twice, hehe. I used to handy-dandy "ADR calculator" from allears so I am pretty positive my window starts on Monday Feb. 20th (for August 19th)
Thank you!

Re: Does anyone do "backup" ADRs? And a few questions.
I've never done a backup ADR, but it seems like a pretty good idea. I am thinking of doing maybe one for our next trip, so we'll have the ADR, and some time to think about them and choose.

I do back-up ADR's all the time. In fact, the first day I can call for Thanksgiving,I intend to make them in a couple places because there is no way that I will know right now where I want to eat.

Re: Does anyone do "backup" ADRs? And a few questions.
I accidentally did a back up ADR on my last trip, which worked to my advantage. We had a ADR at 8pm for House of Blues and a 8pm ADR for Planet Hollywood (DW thought I had cancelled it and I thought DW had cancelled it). So we got to HOB and they told us it would be a "while" because a group was using the main dining room (this was during HCOE) so not wanting to wait and realizing we had not cancelled Planet Hollywood we walked over there informed them of our ADR and were seated right away.

Re: Does anyone do "backup" ADRs? And a few questions.
We actually did this when we went in Dec 05. We had an ADR for Ohana's but it was later than what we wanted so we booked an earlier ADR for Crystal Palace, and because we weren't sure which one we'd use we had an extra CP and 2 Chef Mickey's ADR's (we didn't want to eat to big meals on the same day, so we double booked a couple days until we could get it all sorted out). Well, once we got down to WDW we were actually able to get a better time for Ohana's. It kinda worked out for the best, cause we met this family on their 2nd trip to WDW who didn't really have a grasp of the whole ADR and dining plan concept. They were devestated that they couldn't get an ADR for Chef Mickey's. We hadn't cancelled our 2nd CM ADR, so we gave it to them. They were SOOOOOO happy.
You can always cancel once you figure out what you're gonna actually do. I don't see anything wrong with it at all...

Re: Does anyone do "backup" ADRs? And a few questions.
Wish, I do make extra PSs, because I don;t always know which park we will be at, despite my best OCD planning! But I ALWAYS call to cancel the others.
