Re: Dining Plan FAQ

okay, I have a question - that I didn't read in this section. My son will be 2 when we go to WDW, but I wanted to get him the dining plan while we are there, because his a good eater and snacking off mommy's plate will not work. Can I just get him the Dining plan without buying the park tickets too? I called Dining and asked them, and each time I called I got a different story.

thanks,
margaret.

Re: Dining Plan FAQ

Sorry, you cannot buy the dining plan unless you also buy the park tickets. Kids meals are cheap for counter service, and if you eat @ buffets, he can have all he wants for free. They will even bring him some milk or juice!

Hi. Does anyone know if the dining plan can be used towards the Candlelight Percessional dinner package?

Re: Dining Plan FAQ

Another question here:
I am going alone to WDW, would it be worthwhile to get the dining plan?
Thanks,
Gina.
Oh yes, I should add that I am going in 2009. Maybe Sept. or beginning of Dec.

It depends how you tour and eat. Now that my son is 10 and an adult we no longer use the dining plan because he won't eat $40 worth of food a day. We pay as we go and are happy. If you plan to eat one sit down meal and a counter service meal each day then it can save you money. Disney is also adding a new plan that includes 2 counter service meals a day. That's a good option for families that don't like to stop to eat.

Stephanie, do you have any more info about the plan with 2 counter services? I would love to hear or learn more about that. What will it cost? What will be included? What restaurants will be involved? I like the idea of this. Where did you hear about this?

This is what DVC member services told us also. We wanted to add a child's dining plan for our 2-yr twins to 'share' and was told that if we wanted to do that, they would have to change one of the twin's age to 3 in the reservation, and we would then be required to purchase a park ticket for them as well. We figured we could spend the extra $$ for a kids meal for them to share if needed.

Thanks for the info. This sounds like it may be a good option for some. I still wish I could purchase the DP without the package. Just purchase it separately. Sometimes we will be staying off property and I would love to still have a DP of some sort.

And you have found the reason Disney even offers the dining plan. The want people so stay in their resorts and eat in their restaurants.

This isn't strictly the case any more. Starting this year, passholders are able to book room only reservations and then can add the dining plan for the length of stay, even if it's only one night. Passholders are no longer required to buy the minimum one day base ticket and they are no longer required to book a minimum 3 day stay in order to get the dining plan.
However, if you do not have an annual pass or a seasonal pass, then yes, you must book an MYW package with a three day minimum stay and at least a one day MYW base ticket.
I am guessing that similar rules apply to DVC members who are passholders, but I'm not 100% sure.
One thing you must keep in mind is that in order to book the dining plan, all guests in your room must book the plan. So, if your family is 2 adults and 2 kids, all 4 of you must be on the dining plan or none of you can be on the dining plan.

Of course, coupled with Magic Express, you really don't need to rent a car, so staying at one of the Disney resorts is very time/cost effective for guests who are flying in. But even for guests who drive in with their own car, staying at one of the Disney resorts is much more convenient than staying at one of the hotels outside the World, or even at one of the Downtown Disney area hotels because of the Disney Transport bus system. It's much faster to grab the bus (or monorail or boat) at your resort than it is to wait for the non-Disney shuttle or to drive and park your car, and then have to wait for the parking lot tram to get you to the gate. This is especially time consuming at the MK where you park on the other side of the road from the TTC and almost always are too far to walk, so you need a tram to the monorail/ferry in order to get to the MK's front gate while the Disney resorts' buses all drop you right at the front gate!
The dining plan is just an added excuse/benefit.

Re: Dining Plan FAQ

I have used the dining plan the past two times I have been, and its so easy and convenient. I cant possibly imagine going to disneyworld without it. Whats not to love about waking up everyday, knowing you dont have to calculate food costs into your daily spending plan ? I know you pay for the food one way or another, but Its nice to have it all paid for up front and not have to dip into your wallet everytime you stop to eat. Thats just my two cents.
