A New Approach to Dining

After talking with my daughter, we've decided to forego "sit-down" restaurants this trip - our reasons being: neither of us are big eaters and my dh won't be around to finish up our meals; my dd is a semi-vegetarian and the choices on a lot of menus doesn't appeal to her; sit-down restaurants require APs and planning, and we just want to relax this trip; it's expensive, when you leave half the food. I do love the ambience of the restaurants, but we've found some really charming places to sit in counter-service places (ie. patio of Tusker House) So...if anyone has a favourite non-burger and fries counter-service with some "charm" please give me your suggestions.

Re: A New Approach to Dining

Great idea.

If fish and chips are something you enjoy, they have some very nice outdoor tables behind the Yokshire Fish House ( I think thats' the name of it),in Epcot, overlooking the water.

Oh, and not really for charm, but Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney is fantastic!

Re: A New Approach to Dining

What about Columbia House in the MK? The atmosphere is DEFIANTELY there and they have sandwiches with hummus & broccoli slaw that would appeal to semi-vegis yet fish and other things.

Another CS favorite of mine is the Kringla (EPCOT, Norway) they have differenent open faces sandwiches, some soups, and lots of little "picking" goodies.

In MGM I would suggest the ABC Commissary. I LOVE the Cuban sandwich there that can EASILY be shared, and they also have this wrap with hummus, tomatoes, and such.

Also, the new CS counters at the Land pavillion are GREAT! In December i had a GREAT Caesar salad with chicken, and the soups there were great! They also have roasted vegi sandwiches!!!

You'll have SO many great options!

Re: A New Approach to Dining

Tusker House (as you mentioned) is, of course, my favorite. But I agree with working in some counter service in World Showcase--Cantina de San Angel would be a great one (and veggie friendly).

And I've not eaten at these, but have heard great things about Columbia Harbor House, Pinnochio's Village Haus (new menu), and the new menu at Backlot Studio Catering @ MGM (I think that's what it's called).

I like your "new approach." Relaxation is the name of the game!!

I love "The Land" food court area. A little bit of everything, great prices, and not too much food!

Re: A New Approach to Dining

I truely love abc commissionary. It has your burger and fries, but also has some great alternatives like their cuban sandwich with banana chips. It's never really crowded when we go and it's quiet in there. It's a must do at least once a trip for me and my DD.

Re: A New Approach to Dining

Thanks for your input!

You've all named some great places - Columbia Habour House is my new favourite at MK, so we'll definitely go there. Has anyone tried the Tangerine Cafe in Morocco? Hummus and chickpeas are my dd's favourite kind of food - not a great fan myself - but she likes it. Is it good?

Here's some of the places we've put on our list - what do you think?

Earl of Sandwich
Wolfgang Puck Express
Columbia Harbour House
Tusker House
Yakitori House (Japan)
LaPatisserie (France)
Kringla (Norway)
Cantina de San Angel
The Land
ABC Commissary

Those all sound great. Just don't ask Cinderbella her opinon of the Yakitori house. :c) Earl of Sandwich is one of our favorites, of all places to eat. Great coffee & tea too!

Yes - as I recall she calls it "Yuk-atori House", lol. My dd likes the food and the gardens in Japan are so beautiful. That's what were looking for, nice, quiet places to eat.

Oh, I'm so glad you asked.... I feel like I never shut up about the place! I loved it SO MUCH, and I wish I could eat there every week. I really liked their hummus and their couscous. I suspect the tabbouleh is pretty good, too, except I don't like anyone's tabbouleh.

Hummus kind of IS chickpeas...

And for you, the chicken and lamb on their schwarma combo plate are both amazing! The two of you could probably split that plate and be happy. It's also yet another nice little plaza to sit in.

Tangierine Cafe was my absolutely favorite CS, my second-favorite place to eat in all of the World... and it's a CLOSE second!

Thanks Andrea! I'm no fan of lamb, but I'll give the chicken a try and dd can eat hummus or chickpeas or whatever it is. We'll put it on our list. I love all those winding little paths in Morocco.
