Splitting Meals on the Dining Plan

Hi Guys. It's great to be here. I'm glad I discovered this forum. I have a question if you don't mind. I'm planning a trip in September with my family of four. My son is 11 and won't be eating all the food on the plan. I'm thinking about splitting some meals with him at Coral Reef, Artist Point, and Le Cellier. Does anyone have any experience with this? Can you split meals like that and save the points for another mea? Thanks oh wise ones!

Re: Splitting Meals on the Dining Plan

Good question. We were eating at Alfredo's and there was a couple next to us doing exactly that, they shared one appetizer, one meal, and one dessert. At the end I noticed they gave their WDW card and signed like they were using the dining plan. Although, my instincts tell me, just like a person "sitting at a buffet" they would charge you per person sitting at the table. I hope someone has tried this themselves.

Re: Splitting Meals on the Dining Plan

I hope we can split! We can do fine with two adult app. two entrees, and two deserts, one child's app, entr. and dessert for the four of us! I know I can't split at a buffet, not trying that. I'm not even trying to use my daughter's (age 7) credit to pay for an adult meal.

Besides, I can barely fit out of Rabbit's hole as it is! Don't need THAT many calories!

You can split except at the buffets and places like the HDD.
You should have no problems.

Welcome to DC

I saw this on another site ...hope it helps

I was on the phone with dining this morning (which is not uncommon since we're onsite like 5 weeks a year). I asked the agent about this. She said it comes down to the restaurant. Most won't care but some will. For them to do anything, the server will first have to find out that the non-DP people are non-DP. Next, they'll have to decide to blow the chance for any extra tip and bring it up. After that, some places may decide to charge a "spit fee" or just ask that you not split your meal with the non-DP guests. That's about it.

I think Disney knows they're giving people a lot of food on the dining plan and some people may split meals. I'm sure there's a price point buried deep in Disney's Dining Plan market prospectus that includes a projected amount of meal sharing.

I'm obviously easily confused. What is the significance of someone being non-DP? Does that mean they're more or less likely to go along with the sharing of meals?

Wow, I think if I was asked not to split a meal I'd probably be tempted to pay for my child's meal out of pocket. I do hope I'm not presented with that ethical delimma!

More likely to let a non-DPer split? Or less likely to let a non-DPer split? Honestly.

Re: Splitting Meals on the Dining Plan

I shared with my DDs at 50's PT, we had no problem at all. We ordered 2 appys, 2 dinners, and 2 desserts between the three of us. There was plenty of food for everyone!

Re: Splitting Meals on the Dining Plan

Thanks guys. I guess I will plan as though I can split meals. I can't see why they would deny it. Disney is getting the same money from me if I split a meal or not. Here's hoping!

You do what you feel comfortable with...I'll tell you that you can DEFINITELY pay for your child's meal out of pocket. We did this twice on our trip last year to save credits for "double-star" restaurants.

Re: Splitting Meals on the Dining Plan

I actually may wind up paying out of pocket for the kids meals. I have been told that the portions at some of the signature places have magically shrunk since the new dining plan making it less of an option to split meals. I'll make the ressies and then figure out how to pay for it!

Re: Splitting Meals on the Dining Plan

We split our meals alot. Most of the meals are way to big for us so we will get an appreitizer, the main meal and a dessert and split them. The only place we don't split are at the Buffets and character meals like Liberty Tree Tarven. All the places we do split we ask for an extra plate and the been happy to do that. I suggest that you leave a larger tip if you do this. It helps alot. They remember us the next time we eat there. In France we alway eat two or three lunchs there and after the first time there each trip they ask us the next times if we would like an extra plate for all our selections.

Re: Splitting Meals on the Dining Plan

I had the understanding, everyone on the reservation must be on the dining plan.
