Help with PS - where should we go 1st night?
Thanks for getting me going (see my post on do we need to make PS's). I really didn't think about it much and just assumed we would be fine
I have a lot to learn.Anyway, wondering if you had suggestion for our 1st night. We will be arriving at POR about 2 to 3:00 p.m. Probably won't go into the parks that day as we'll be tired from our 5:00 a.m wake up but want to do something fun to get into the spirit. It's our 2nd trip (1st one in 1994) and the first time we'll be staying on site. Should we take the boat to Downtown Disney and eat there? Can reservations be made at any of the restaurants there? Or should we try something at one of the hotels and watch the boat show? Any help would be appreciated. Also, any recommendations for future nights? Sorry about so many ?'s - starting to panic that I didn't jump on this sooner. |

Since you want to get into the spirit, here is my suggestion. Check into POR, relax, walk around the resort, take a nap, go swimming or something. You could also hop a boat to Downtown Disney for a while.
Make a PS at either Chef Mickey's in the Contemporary or 'Ohana in the Polynesian for about 7:30. The fantasy in the Sky fireworks for 3/28 are scheduled at 7:15. You will be able to see them from the viewing area at the Contemporary or from the beach at the Polynesian. After the fireworks, head over to the restaurant, eat a nice relaxing dinner, and then head out to watch the water parade. It should pass the Poly about 9:00 PM and the Contemporary about 10:00 PM. Both of these restaurants are great character buffets, and are a great way to start out your trip.

Taking a boat to DD sounds great. I have only been to the Rain Forest Cafe there, enjoyed it but could also skip it and not miss it.
You could go to DD and shop then hop over Chef Mickey's for a fun character meal to get your family in the Disney state of mind (if you are like my family-- we don't need much help getting in the spirit!!) But there are many places that are worth looking into at DD. I will be looking at a new place to try for our next trip. Have you been to wdwig.com to look at a menus from WDW? My favorite place to eat, my don't miss on a trip to WDW, is 'Ohana at the Poly. All you can eat--yum!

Ohana's menu - children's options?
These are great suggestions - we'll be going to one or the other! I was looking at the menu for Ohana's and wondered if they have kid friendly items.....? I have 12 year old that's picky - it will be hard to pay the $23.00 + for her.... she's a light eater besides being picky.

I have heard there is a kids menu at 'Ohana. I also have a picky one--only mine eats just PopTarts, fries and chips! We always look at places that serve fries ("Straight---All Crispy Fries, Please" is how he always orders!)

We always do both Chef Mickey's and 'Ohana on our trips. We usually make PSs for one nice place each day of our stay. We do fast food and snacks for the other meals.
This will be our first trip with our picky little 4 year old. I always pack some of his own food just in case he can't get fries. He is okay with this since food is in no way important to him. I plan on going to 'Ohana with him and expect to pay for him to not eat, then if they do have fries on the kids menu then it will be a good day.

NO DESSERTS!?!?!?! Ohana's has the best of the simple desserts, it is simply pineapple which you dip in hot caramel sauce! It is heavenly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No WDW trip ,for me anyway, would be complete without it!!!!!!!!!!1:)

WDWorld2003! Congrats on the return visit but I do not see when that visit will take place. This may have an effect on your first night plans. Allow me to digress. We made our plans in June of 2002 for our March 2003 visit. First mistake, high travel period.
We had plans for a 5:30AM departing plane out of South Bend, IN with an 11:00AM arrival time on An Airline who shall remain nameless (HINT). By January, they had changed our flight schedule to a 1:00pm departure with a 7:30PM arrival. On top of that the did the same thing with our return visit. Total change in time, we loose one day of fun in the sun!! My advise, if your visit is several months away (more than say three months), keep your plans loose. The airlines are libel to throw a wrench into the works just to let you know who is boss.

I just don't get it--you all here seem to LOVE Ohana's--I HATED it!!!! My mother and I had a lovely view of the castle, but lousy, driedout food. By the time it came to us all the way across the restaurant, everything, with the exception of the shrimp, was dried-out and tough. On top of that,we had horrible service. The guy even had the nerve to ask us if we were finished eating!!! When we said no and ordered more shrimp,it was more than 10 minutes and reminding the server 3 times before somecame to us. I'll never understand why people like the place.
