Icon5 Dining Plan Usage

If the four of us (2 adults and 2 children) are at a sit down restaurant, do we have to use fur of our table-service-meal credits? Or could we just use, say, one adult meal and one child's meal, and share everything? My kids are very light eaters, and since the meals all come with appetizers and desserts, it sounds like there will be plenty of food. Can you mix your order, say use one table-service credit, plus add an extra entree, etc. that we would pay out of pocket? There must be some provision for mixed orders, since alcoholic drinks would have to be billed separately from dining credits...

Yes, you can use them any way that you want. Just be sure to ask before you order. You will get a TON of food on the dining plan...

Re: Dining Plan Usage

Yes, you can. Just explain what you want to do to your server, they will work with you. Please remember that you now can no longer use a child's meal to pay for an adult.

My experience is that you have plenty of food, no need to try to save up for later in the trip. The kids meals are not big, and with my kids, even the ones that don't eat much, they would never be able to share. I think you will find after tying this once, you will just want to go ahead and use the meals as they are meant to be used.

Oh, and welcome to DisneyCentral!

Welcome to DC! I agree with Mickey....there is so much food on the meal plan. You almost never wind up feeling like you need to "save" something. For our family it is just the opposite.

Re: Dining Plan Usage

When did they change it so that the credits are different so that you can't use a chid's credit on an adult meal? We were planning on going to one table service restauraunt that needed two credits by paying for some of the kids meals out of pocket so that we would have enough credits.

This is exactly my question too...I didn't realize they'd changed it. Last year we paid for three of DS's meals out of pocket so that we'd have three extra TS credits for Hoop Dee Doo. So, you're saying they've changed the coding on the card so that we can't do this now? I'm so glad to know this in advance if that's the case.

Allyson - when we were there just about a week and a half ago there was no differentiation between adult meals and child meals. My son slept through dinner at O'Hana's and insisted he wanted to eat nothing at one other sit down so we wound up with 2 extra table service meals. We used it to treat our freinds to a meal and they are 2 adults....so I don;t know when they plan on changing the rules but as of just about 10 or so days ago it was the same....

Re: Dining Plan Usage

Another question- is there a card or something (room key) that has your meal plan credits recorded? If you still have meals left in your "account" at the end of the week, can you save them for a future trip?

When you check in, all dining credits are applied to your room key. Doesn't matter who's key in your party you use, it still deducts from the same "pile" of credits. The dining credits expire at midnight the day you check out, so no saving them.

Re: Dining Plan Usage

As for knowing how many you have left, every meal receipt has a running total of how many "food coupons" you have left. The number of credits is an aggregate total of all guest/days per room or account in the case of multiple rooms on one reservation.

Re: Dining Plan Usage

It was our experience that the Dining Credits were not differitiated by Adult/Child... We explained everytime what we were doing and the Dining plan saved us tons of money!! The CM's were helpful and very accomodating!! Both our DD's eat like birds so we did not want two kids meals each time... and we were not forced to use our credits... We did not set out to have the savings we did, but we paid approx 500 for the dining plan and ate 1000.00 worth of food!! Crazy!

Re: Dining Plan Usage

We're going to use the Dining Plan for the first time on our next visit - but reading about all the dos and don'ts of it is truly making me nervous - and confused. Is it as complicated as it seems?

Oh - and welcome to DC Klcm!
