Is there a dress code for the California Grill?

We got ressies for the California Grill during the fireworks display. We've never eaten there and I've heard that some places have a dress code. Please help before I overpack.

Re: Is there a dress code for the California Grill?

This comes from AllEarsNet so it MUST be true!

Quote:
At Victoria and Albert's at the Grand Floridian, dressing up is the norm, and a jacket is required for men. At many of the other resort hotels' more upscale "Signature" restaurants such as the California Grill at the Contemporary Resort, or Jiko at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, guests are asked to dress in "smart casual" clothing. This means shirts with collars (polo shirts are acceptable), dress shorts or khakis for men and dress shorts, pants or skirts for women. Restaurants located in the parks allow park touring clothing. Shutters, at the Caribbean Beach Resort, is very casual and park-touring clothing is acceptable. However, guests should exercise common courtesy and not arrive for dinner in bathing suits, barefoot or shirtless.
Think that about sums it up.

Re: Is there a dress code for the California Grill?

I have to wait until the last minute because Everything would be taken with me including the ski jackets (Hey you never know, it could snow in WDW in June.) If I wait until the last minute, I have a better chance of leaving the kitchen sink at home. Thanks so much for adding the article. I thought they were one of the restaurants that asked for "dressy" I just couldn't remember for the life of me. Good Lord I am running out of time aren't I?

Re: Is there a dress code for the California Grill?

We dressed up a little when we went there...but there were plenty of folks in polos and khaki shorts.

FYI - We did see them turn away a family with a teenage son in a sleeveless shirt (they were walk-ups without ADRs - not sure if it would have mattered though).

Re: Is there a dress code for the California Grill?

Thanks Allyson, hmm I was going to pack a skirt set but the top is sleeveless. Maybe I'll pack another one with short sleeves just to be sure.

The rule for dress usually includes no sleeveless tank shirts. That's very different than a woman wearing a sleeveless top. They mean those "wifebeaters" the guys wear to bum around in. It's that armpit thing again.

I think for YOU a sleeveless shirt is fine (you may be cold, though). This was a teenage boy in a sleeveless t-shirt!

Re: Is there a dress code for the California Grill?

We try to eat at California Grille every time we go. I've gone in Khakis w/a sport coat and polo shirt, Khakis and polo shirt w/o a coat, and a nicer T-shirt and nice, clean cargo shorts, and have never had a problem.

At first we were surprised at how "dressed down" some other tables were, but I think as long as your clean, neat and presentable you won't have a problem. They realize that it's hot as you-know-where and that you're on vacation.

WRT the kid in the sleeveless shirt, I can kind of picture that, and I wouldn't take from that that a sleeveless blouse would be prohibited.

Re: Is there a dress code for the California Grill?

We dressed pretty casual last summer, just a little less casual than in the parks. I threw a Hawaiian shirt over a tee and wore jeans. My DW and DD's wore casual skirts or nice shorts and matching MM tee shirts, of course! You'll see a variety of dress there. If you want to put on the dog and dress up you'll fit in as well.

It was, I believe, the largest dinner check I've ever picked up wearing blue jeans.
