Le Cellier

I have an ADR for Le Cellier for just myself. I always hear raves so I wanted to check it out. Well, I went to the menu for the first time and OUCH! I am not on the dining plan.

Would it be weird to just get the cheese soup and creme brulee and no entree? I know the filet sounds good but I just don't know that it will be $27 worth of good. Also, I know this is odd but I don't like beer. I don't like the smell or even a bit of the taste. I just saw the cheese soup lists beer in the description. Even I can even taste a hint I'm afraid I won't like it.

Now, I'm wondering if I should just do a counter service somewhere in WS instead?

Any ides?

Re: Le Cellier

It is a little expensive and w/o the dining plan it does hurt the pocket book a little. I don't think it would be strange to order soup and dessert. I didn't taste any beer in the soup.

Re: Le Cellier

We loved LeCellier but we were on the dining plan! The steak is awesome, but you're right not worth 27$, lol, I don't think it would be weird to order soup and dessert and the soup was amazing, so yummy, and I didn't even taste a touch of beer and I absolutely hate beer! There are good counter service places though also!

Re: Le Cellier

I don't think it'd be a problem to order just an appetizer and dessert (some of the portions of that stuff are enough to fill you up anyway).

In terms of the soup, I'd just ask the CM there. My experience has been that they're pretty knowledgable about the food.

You didn't mention whether you made a reservation for Dinner or Lunch. If you're schedule permits it, maybe the Lunch menu would be abit more reasonable? (I haven't checked the menu and we usually end up there for lunch).

Personally, I always end up with the open-faced Reuben.

Re: Le Cellier

On our last trip there, I wasn't very hungry when it was time for our ADR for lunch. The rest of the family was, so all I ordered was the soup and the chocolate cake that I shared with the whole family. We were not on the Dining Plan either, and I could not see the point in wasting food just so I would not look cheap. That said, I do not think it would be weird to just order soup and dessert. I am sure that there are other people who do the same thing. Also, I did not taste the beer in the soup at all. In fact, my DSister can't stand the taste of any alcohol and she could not even taste the whiskey in the chocolate cake.

Re: Le Cellier

IMO,if you aren't on the dining plan,Le Cellier isn't worth going to. This is the only restaurant that my mother and I were just as hungry leaving as when we entered, and our bill came to 125 dollars(all on the free food dining plan!!). The QUALITY was fine,it was just the QUANTITY that we had a problem with.

Re: Le Cellier

I have never been on the dining plan and have gone to Le Cellier a bunch of times. And the $27 Mushroom Filet Mignon IS DEFINITELY WORTH IT!!!!! OMG, it is DELISH. The cheese soup DOES NOT taste like beer at all, so no worries. I didn't really like the whiskey chocolate cake, because I COULD taste the liquor in there.

IMO, don't eat a meal the whole day and just snack. Then go there for a full dinner. You WON'T regret it!

Re: Le Cellier

The last time we went, my wife order the beef barley soup, tea, and no dessert. While I had the filet that was excellent and worth the cost. We have seen people just come in and order the soup and a drink and that all. Don't worry about it. I love the the cheese soup.

Re: Le Cellier

I think LeCellier is worth it, and I don't have the Dining Plan (we have DDE so it's 20% off, but I'd eat there regardless!)
The cheese soup is fabulous and you don't taste the beer.

Re: Le Cellier

Have you considered the lunch menu? We're doing that this year, and the prices are considerably lower than the dinner menu, yet the selection of food looks pretty good. Remember, along with the soup (which does not taste of beer), you'll get the fabulous bread! I can't imagine anyone leaving LeCellier hungry....the portions are very manageable, but not so overwhelming as to make you feel stuffed and sick.

If budget is a consideration I'd skip Le Cellier. I keep hearing raves about Le Cellier but more often from people who feel like they got a good values for 1 Dining Plan table service credit.

I have to disagree with you here. We've been going to LeCellier for years (have never used the dining plan) and it is consistently the only restaurant which we all enjoy. We've never had a disappointing meal there yet.

I've never been there on the dining plan but I still think the food is great. It is a little expensive but it's so worth it.
