Yachtsman Steakhouse, Artist Point, California Grill--whaddya think?

So, thanks to the fine and necessary conference I'm going to in Orlando that happens to be scheduled 6 days prior to the beginning of my vacation, we've booked an add-on 6 days at Pop Century with the free Dining Plan. Since we'd already made ressies at our favorite restaurants during our actual vacation, we decided to use and abuse the "free" part of the Dining plan deal and book the best of the best. We're headed to Yachtsman, Artist Point, and California Grill (which uses up our six table service meals).

What have been your experiences? Any thoughts or tips you'd like to share?

bali - I agree with cinderbella. How cool is your job to meet at WDW!!! Are they hiring? I retire from the service in just less than three years. I gotta get me a job like that.

I am not sure about any of those restaurants, we have not eaten at any of them. I hope you have a blast! It already sounds awesome.

LOL ...yeah, I couldn't believe it when my boss showed me the conference.

Alcar66, the conference doesn't meet at WDW (unfortunately!). It's at a conference hotel offsite, but staying at Pop Century instead of at the conference hotel is going to save my company over $100 per night! Four days of the extra six will be conference days, but the other two are weekend days, so it just made sense to stay there the whole time. Then we'll transfer over to BCV where we already have reservations for our actual vacation. It's so exciting! I can't wait!

Your boss deserves a "High-Five" for given you the good news. Have fun!

My boss is extraordinary, across the board. I've been very blessed to have a mentor like her.

All 3 are very good. Have eaten at all of them, but not a CG for a few years now, but they have always gotten great reviews. Enjoy them all.

Re: Yachtsman Steakhouse, Artist Point, California Grill--whaddya think?

We went to YSH the day after christmas and had a great meal. The server was wonderful and really made the meal, but we went back about a week later and the food was still great the server wasn't. It just wasn't the same and had we had the second meal first we wouldn't have gone back!

Cal Grill we love and have never had a bad meal there yet. The fireworks are great from up there. The food is first class, make sure you try the chocolate cake for dessert!

As for artist pointe I will let you know in about 3 weeks when I return as we are trying this one for the first time in 2 weeks!

We ate at Artists Point in February, and the food was good and the room was beautiful. But it was pretty boring, I have to say... We paid a lot of money and sat with some older families in the dining room, and we were wishing we were NEXT DOOR AT WHISPERING CANYON, where eveyone was having a great time!!!

LOL . Too funny MissDis! I have a feeling we'll be in the same boat--not real high-falutant over here--but I couldn't pass up trying all the best restaurants for free! If we had to pay, we'd have made different decisions.

Re: Yachtsman Steakhouse, Artist Point, California Grill--whaddya think?

I have eaten at Yachtsman and California Grill. The food at Yachtsman was super yummy though our server was a bit snooty-pa-tooty. Of course that may have been because it was during my College Program and he was expecting a lousy tip from 4 college students, but still no excuse for his snootiness (especially since we left a good tip!)

I have eaten at California Grill twice and have loved it both time! The atmosphere is amazing there and the service is great. Attentive but without that snooty feeling. Both servers I had there were excellent, helpful and friendly. And the food and the view were super delicious!

You will have a great time!

Hey Bali,

I've had the pleasure of dining at Artist Point and California Grill--both were wonderful! At the California Grill, try to schedule your dinner reservation around 9 PM, you'll have spectacular entertainment via "Wishes--" the house lights are turned down and the soundtrack for the fireworks show are turned up so it's like your own private party. Also, ask for Ray at the bar--he's a mixologist extrordinaire!

Have a great time!

Thanks Belle--and welcome to DC! Unfortunately, the only time they had available when I booked the reservations was 6:10pm! We're trying to decide if we want to drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwww out our dinner and watch Wishes from the restaurant or head down to MK to watch from there. I think it'll depend on the table we get.

We've eaten at all 3 and all are very good. We usually don't enjoy CG as much as the others because they are always running late for reservations, but you can't go wrong with any of the 3. Artist Point is great for salmon or buffalo, the YSH is great for steaks and lobster and the CG has a pretty good variety. Enjoy.
