DDP Update

Last updated 11 Aug 2006

DDP Trade-In Offer August 13 - October 7

In a bit of an odd revision to the Disney Dining Plan, guests may trade in their Table Service meal for a counter service meal during the period of August 13 - October 7, 2006, and in exchange for doing so, will ALSO get 2 vouchers for DDP snack options OR a disney trading pin and lanyard OR a Where Magic Lives poster. The snacks can be redeemed anywhere, but must be redeemed at the same time. The lanyard will be from a specified merchandise location.

DDP special Pop and AsMu offerings Aug 15 - Sept 4

To help with the crush of folks with free dining during the period of August 15 - September 4, 2006, Table Service meals on the Disney Dining Plan can be redeemed at the Pop Century and All Star Movies Resorts for counter service dinners with special entrees including prime rib, salmon, and turkey. These guests will also recieve the "trade in" offer for Table Service meals offered during this period.

Hope this helps!

Re: DDP Update

Honestly this scares me I normally go late Aug because the crowd levels are lower and while I ejoy the free dining myself it seem the crowds are getting bigger and bigger each year. Im trying not to worry about it but first WDW extends the hours of alot of the TS restaurants and now this.
Personally the TS credits is what makes the DDP a good deal I dont think I would take that trade in..

Re: DDP Update

Yeah, hardly seems like a fair trade to me. Can they really be that busy during this late Aug/early Sept period because of the free dining? Guess I'm glad we opted for December this year!

I think it might appeal more to people with young kids who just can't make it to another TS. We won't be trading any of ours. I don't think you have to worry about the parks being too much busier. What's probably happening is that every single family there is booking TS everyday, whereas without free dining all of those people were at CS a lot of the time. You also have to remember that many people make multiple ADR's 'just in case' so there will probably be a lot of same day no-shows. These are the things that I'm telling myself to help me believe that my beloved last two weeks of August won't be too busy. I'd rather deal with heat than crowds!

Re: DDP Update

Ugh, sounds like they may have sold a lot of those free dining packages!

I think disyady is probably right though, that crowds won't necessarily be heavier it is just that almost EVERYONE there will be taking advantage of free dining and going to the table service restaurants.

Glad I made all my ADRs!

Re: DDP Update

Don't want to pat myself on the back (pat, pat, pat) but reading this, I think my DD will be very happy I'm coming along to babysit. If the TS places are going to be busy, that's even more of a reason not having a toddler to deal with.

Hey maybe I could start a babysitter service for any MB down there at the time. Let's see, 6 bucks a hours per kid.........how many kids to I have to watch to pay for my trip..????

Re: DDP Update

Who came up with this plan? Goofy? It sure seems goofy to me. I'd like to combine counter service or snacks so I can get another table service meal. But some people will think it's good for them and some people won't do the math. Personally, I don't get it. As for Sept. 22-30 when I'll be there, I made all my reservations last month, and pretty much got everything I wanted when I wanted it, excepting le Cellier and Chef Mickey's, and I'm told that the concierge at the Contemporary will be able to get me in when the time comes anyway.
From the dates that extra services are added at the values is now through Labor Day weekend. Things must fall off hard after that because the kids are back in school.

Man, I hope this doesn't mean it'll be extra crowded, I picked sep29-oct4 to avoid feeling like a canned sardine

Re: DDP Update

It is goofy. I have small kids, and I STILL don't wanna trade in my TS meals That's just...odd.

But, should I be scared??? Are the crowds gonna be wack in LATE Sept???

I hate wack crowds.

Re: DDP Update

I think it was a good idea for Disney to offer this option. Since a lot of people got the free dining, they won't actually be losing money by eating a counter service instead of a table service. This should free up some of the table service restaurants at least a little bit. Personally, I would never give up my TS meals, even if it is free! Eating at a sit down restaurant every night will be a huge treat for our family.

Re: DDP Update

I won't be doing a trade in of my TS credits for CS credits. Seems rediculous, but that is just because I enjoy eating out at a nice restaurant when we are on vacation! I am not a big fan of "Fast Food" types of restaurants!

Now if they made an offer to trade in CS credits for TS credits, I would be the first in line!!!

While I don't think the parks will be extra crowded, it sounds like the restaurants are getting fully booked. So I guess I won't be eating too many meals in the Disney restaurants.

Re: DDP Update

I think that within a year or two, there will be no more dining plan, because I think Disney is really losing money on it. I mean, how canthey be making money, especially since they're offering it for free?

Re: DDP Update

I would trade in a TS for a counter just because we don't usually do a sit down dinner ever night. In fact that would make the plan even more appealing to me. Too bad I'm not going to be there.
