Meal Reviews from my trip!

I wanted to do a seperate post on the meals we ate because most of them were great and deserve to be shared.

Day 1.. PS 5:45PM at 50's Prime Time

We checked in at 5:30PM and were seated about 5 minutes later. Cousin Brian was our waiter. We checked over the menu and ordered drinks. It was a hard decision for us all but here is what we had:

Me .. Meatloaf Mom&Dad.. Split Pot Roast
DH.. Fried Chicken Sister ... Onion Rings (she didn't like DD..Chicken Fingers anything on the menu)

The food was okay but not great. The green beans that came with the meal were not good at all. My meatloaf was probably the best thing at the table. The service was OKAY but not what I had expected. Our waiter was no fun at all but the waiter at another table seemed to be having a blast with his "kids". The best thing was the Dad's Super Sundae (may have the name wrong). It was HUGE!!! I mean HUGE!! It had ice cream, caramel corn, M&Ms, hot fudge, caramel, whip cream, and some other stuff on it. It took all 6 of us to finish it. I would probably not go back to the 50's but it was a nice experience. You have to understand that mom can cook, and her fried chicken and green beans beats the pants off what my DH had.

Day 2.. 11:30AM PS Crystal Palace
We arrived at Crystal Palace at 11:15 and there were people everywhere. I saw the line going down the length of the porch and I thought surely that was for people who didn't have a PS. WRONG that was for everyone. So I waited in line to tell them I had a PS and get my pager. We were paged at 12:02 PM and we were the third family to be let in for lunch. That was great, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND a 11:30 PS because by time we left the place was packed and the lines at the buffett long. The food was WONDERFUL. What stands out are the Ceasar Salad, and the Salmon OMG it was good!!!! I don't have a clue what they marinated the salmon in but it was AWESOME. My DD loved the fact that there was chicken fingers, mac 'n cheese and corn on the kids bar (so did my sister!). The Apple cobbler, now that was the best dessert I had all week, it was the best I've had in awhile. It was cooked in a big ole iron skillet and still hot. They had the ice cream machine right beside it to put on top. OH MY GOD!! I was in heaven, I ate 2 helpings!! The characters were great! My DD loved it and we will definetly be going back in 2005!!

Day 3 ... 12 Noon Rainforest Cafe
We were again 15 minutes early and many of you were right they definetly need to redo the check in process what a mad house! When we went in 1999 we just walked right in, oh well things change. My DH had the Jambalya (thanks to someone here suggesting it) and he loved it. I tried a bite and it was spicy, but he likes it that way. I had the grilled chicken sandwich that has bacon, cheese and BBQ sauce on it. It was HUGE but yummy. Both mom & sis had a burger which was also very large and they said was one of the best burgers they had ever had. My dad had a grilled chicken salad , again really big, but he said it was good. Oh, for appetizer we had gotten some buffalo wings and these too were really good. We were sat in the Elephant room so we didn't have the best table in the house but it was fine with us. DD slept thru the whole thing.

Day 4... No PS, so we went to Whispering Canyon

Me, DH, DD and dad went to WC at about 6:30PM we were sat immediately. I really liked the atmosphere here because it was full of families. I had the roasted chicken, dad the catch of the day, DH a steak, and DD chicken fingers. Everything was good but I wish I would have gotten the all-u-can eat skillet instead. The table beside had that and it looked YUMMY! We got a all-u-can drink milk shake (chocolate) and it was great! We did notice the what happens when you ask for the ketchup!! We didn't need any but it happend several times while we were there, too funny! :laugh They also had the pony races while we were there and DD loved watching the kids gallop around. We had the bananna dust bowl for desert and it was WONDERFUL! It was big but me and DH finished it off. It was a shell with cinnamon sprinkled on it filled with caramelized banannas topped with ice cream and caramel sauce, really good, I recommend it. Since we will be staying at WL for 2005 then we will definetly eat there again.

Day 5... 5:30PM 1900 Park Fare
I had read mixed reviews about this buffett so I really didn't know what to expect. We arrived at 5:10 PM and were seated immediately there was only 2 other families there at the time and as soon as we sat down Cinderella started making her rounds. The food here was the best we had all week. There was salad, soups (my mom says the chilled strawberry soup was magnificent), Prime Rib (which was DELICIOUS), salmon, and some other main entrees that I can't remember. There was an EXCELLENT spinach that I wish I had the recipe for, I mean it was good. There was also a really good pasta sauce with noodles, and other sides dishes. I was a little disappointed with desserts because there was no ice cream!! They did have a good bread pudding with a custard for topping and other pastries and cookies which were good. Again the characters were wonderful and DD loved it

We had GOOOD at WDW and I'm ready to go back and eat some more! I just REALLY want to thank you all for the help you gave us in planning this wonderful vacation!

We always love the food as well as the experience at 50's. I always order the chicken & DH gets the meatloaf & then we share! It's a must do for us. BTW, do you know you can substitute corn for the green beans? Just an easier way for us to make sure we eat our veggies!!!:D

Most WDW restaurants will give you the recipes if you ask (which I do, and often) They will send them via email. I have been able to bring a little disney home. Most of the recipes are easily made at home, and all are adapted to small quantities. I have even tackled some of the desserts.

Try this...
I went to www.wdwig.com and did a search with the word "recipes" It brought up a few different hits. pick 2 " anita answers" scroll down to Ellen (she wants the spinach recipe also)
it gives an address to write to.

If that doesn't work - I'm sure someone her will be visiting WDW and may be able to pick it up for you.

Good luck:D

Willbegone, I'm glad your DH liked the jambalaya, it's one of my favorites. It sounds like you had a nice trip with lots of good food.
