We are going to WDW the Dec 1st weekend. We have no plans for character meals this trip. But we did want to eat in a few regular restaurants. After sooo many trips we can only take so much of the counter service food ..even if some of it isnt all that bad.

We are planning to be at MGM the night of Dec 1st. We may be at AK during the day or MGM. Not sure yet. Recommendations for dinner at either place??? I would prefer it to be reasonable in price...not $25 a plate. I considered Prime Time Cafe but am concerned about the wait staff picking on DS. He is a shy sensitive kid and would not be happy about being picked on.

Anyway, any suggestions for AK, MGM, or MK? We have not been to Tony's or any of the regular sit-down places in MK either (except for CP).

Prime time is a blast. I have a daughter who is VERY sensitive and very shy.
They pick very little and it is in all good fun. They will not make anyone feel dumb.

Re: Recommendations

Have you tried SciFi? My DS loved watching the old movie clips what we ate. The atmosphere is somehting that we can't get at home, eating in a 'car' is just so different that it's worht a stop for us. We find the food to be fine, stick to burgers and fries and you should be fine.

I like the Rainforest cafe at AK. I know it gets some iffy reviews once in awihle but loved it both times I have been there. The prices are reasonable to me and less than what your limit is. If you are going to be at MGM and not AK, try momma's if you haven't yet. I LOVE it there.

Re: Recommendations

Give Prime Time a try, I'm pretty shy and I was even more shy a few years ago when we ate there, but I had no problems. They can tell when someone isn't too keen and will back off if the person isn't comfortable with it.
I'd also recommend the Sci-Fi, I liked it with the old horror movies and car tables.

At MK I'd definitely recommend Tony's and Liberty Tree. Tony's has a beautiful dining room and the staff is so friendly and fun, we had a blast. At Liberty Tree the food is AMAZING, I couldn't believe it, and the atmosphere is great too.

Re: Recommendations

We ate Thanksgiving lunch at 50’s PT. Great food, and a small amount of interaction like you’d expect – though our server wasn’t as “into it” as others we saw. We all really enjoyed it, including DD #2 (6 at the time). She is normally not shy, but may surprise you several times a year with oversensitivity. Call us bad parents if you wish, but it’s never frequent enough that we plan for it, anticipate it, or try to shelter her from situations that might trigger it. Usually, we can joke and have a good time with her just like we do older sister. We knew in advance what to expect (thanks to all of you ex-DCer’s), and never hesitated to book.

Through most of the meal, she, like the rest of us, was being entertained by the antics, the majority of which were occurring at other tables. But when our server drew her into it toward the end of the meal, she got embarrassed and welled up with tears. Can’t blame the server – DD had given no hint of being shy or sensitive. All he did was smile and say to her “Hey sis, this isn’t a ‘see-food’ restaurant; close your mouth when you chew. The rest of us don’t want to ‘see’ what you’re eating.”

After server left, she whimpered in protest to the rest of us “I wasn’t chewing with my mouth open!” We tried to explain that it was a joke (one, incidentally that she did understand, having heard it at home on more than one occasion) and all in good fun, but that did nothing to ease her sense of embarrassment. In her mind, she was wrongly accused and chastised before the ENTIRE WORLD!

Two years later, is she still scarred and traumatized by this incident? Hardly.
Did this ruin the rest of the vacation for her or any of the rest of us? Not in the least.
Has she gone on to live a healthy, normal life? Absolutely.
Is she ready to go back and eat at 50’s PT Diner again? NOT ON YOUR LIFE!
She still regards it as the only bad thing that happened on our WDW vacation.

So, just be advised if you do go, that there will most likely be opportunities for a sensitive child to be embarrassed. Even if you spoke with your server about it beforehand, I don’t know that you could guarantee that some other server might not walk by and say something. Know what I mean? It’s just that kind of fun, light-hearted atmosphere. I hate to discourage anyone from going; as I stated, we all knew going in what to expect, and were looking forward to it. And we did have good food and a good time. Unfortunately…. for one of us, all the good memories were immediately blotted out forever by “The Incident.”

Good luck to you on your decision. I hope wherever you choose still has ADR’s available, and is a fun and memorable experience for all.

Re: Recommendations

My new favorite sit down resturant is the Crystal Palace, outstanding buffet ( well at least on Thanksgiving it was). We are also very fond of 50's Prime Time both DW and I can remember our parents having kitchens that looked a LOT like the ones you eat in. Rainforest is a nice change as always. And we do like the Mexican resturant in the pyramid at the Mexican pavilion in Epcot.

Enjoy!

Re: Recommendations

In Magic Kingdom I really enjoy going to 2 different restaraunts. I like Crystal Palace and Liberty Tree Tavern. Actually, we are going to both of these again on our trip in 2007.

In Animal Kingdom, I liked Flame Tree Barbeque, my mom and I shared a meal and we ate the ribs. They were awesome! On our trip in 2007 we are going to be trying out Donald's Breakfastforsourus! I hope it's good!

In MGM Studios, I like Hollywood & Vine, even though the rest of my family didn't like it. I also loved the Sci Fi. Eat there hamburgers they are awesome!

In Epcot, we went to Le cellier it was alright. I prefer nine dragons which is a chinese restaraunt. It was awesome! That is if you like chinese.

You should also try out Ohanas at the Polynesian resort.

We always go to the Rainforest Cafe--always a good experience; but as Dana said, some of the reviews are iffy. First time we went we were seated next to the gorillas...imagine my surprise after a few minutes passed...

Re: Recommendations

Rainforest Cafe always gets mixed reviews - I'd call the food "ok" - not fantasic, but we've had some good meals there. But my kids have always loved the atmosphere. It's wild and loud, but it's fun too.

I would give Sci-Fi at MGM a try if you've never been there before

I would definitely suggest Mama Melrose at MGM. That is a must for us every trip. We really like the food there. We ate at Sci Fi once and weren't too impressed with it. At MK, we really enjoy the character meals at CP and LTT, but since you don't want to do character meals, you might consider Tony's or the Plaza Restaurant--I have read a lot of great reviews about it on here and the prices are pretty reasonable.

They are more likely to pick on YOU. ;-) And I'm betting your kids will love it.
