time to rethink Ohana's????
OK after reading everyone's AWESOME trip reports there seemed to be a common theme...(other than great trips) bad reviews of Ohana's. We've eaten there twice once for dinner 4 years ago - b/f the menu change - and once for breakfast last year. Both times we really liked it so we have it booked as our last night special meal for our April trip. After these recent reviews I am pretty nervous about it and am considering making a change.
So what I wanted to know was - was it basically the service that wasn't good or was it also the food that was bad? DD loved Ohana b/c of the hula lessons and the marching around the restaurant - but if the food is terrible I don't want to waste my last night there!!

Re: time to rethink Ohana's????
Our food wasn't bad, it was different from what we really loved before the menu change.
The service however was just horrible. I would suggest if you do want to do Ohana, you make your ADR for a very early dinner before they get busy. Hopefully in a less crowded restaurant, the service will be better.

Re: time to rethink Ohana's????
We were just there on Jan 20 and our food and service was great. I don't think we have ever had a bad time there, and we go about 4 times a year. This last time we didn't even have an ADR, but everything turned out fine. We just had a couple of drinks while we waited
...Oh.. and it was kind of late when we went, so the restaurant was becoming empty anyway.

Re: time to rethink Ohana's????
I was thinking the same thing, but am going anyway. LAst trip was the only time that I didn't enjoy my meal there. The food was fine....it was the service that was lacking in October. I liked the new menu and fell madly in love with the bread pudding even if I did only have room for a taste. I am definately giving them another chance....they have always been good to me and should get a second chance. If my experience in august isn't good, then it will be the last time I go for dinner. They will always have my business for breakfast.

Re: time to rethink Ohana's????
Well..I'll throw a wrench in it..
we went to Ohana's in October and had a great time...the food was wonderful as well as the service. I give Ohanas two thumbs up. The bread pudding is...omg...wonderful! This is a very different song than I was sining a few years ago before the menu change...we absolutely did not love Ohanas back then. Our server Carlos was TERRIBLE, and he never ever brought us refills. Maybe Carlos has made a comeback ![]()

I think the food was better before the menu change, that being said the last time we were there the food and service was both awesome. Ohana is a must for us every trip.

Re: time to rethink Ohana's????
I hate to say this, but the steak and turkey were way over seasoned for my taste and i like spicy food. I think Ohana's main draw is still the loud family atmosphere. As I've said, the menu never really called out to me but as a communal exerience it's possibly unmatched at WDW.

Re: time to rethink Ohana's????
We ate there in September, and my husband is still talking about it! We loved it! The scalloped potatoes were to die for!
I would give it a shot!

Re: time to rethink Ohana's????
We just ate there on 21 January, and had a great time. Food was good and the service was great. We were off in the corner, which was good as we like a quiet meal. We also went early instead of late. We would go back again.

Re: time to rethink Ohana's????
I went in December and thought the meal was just SO-SO. Mind you, this used to be #2 of my FAVORITE places to eat dinner while at WDW!!!! Not after my next trip. I won't write it off forever, I just won't go in August.
What made my meal a disappointment? I had to wait AN HOUR after my ADR time to get seated!!!! With two cranky kids, it started out like a disaster. Then when we finally got seated, we got all of our food thrown on our table at the SAME TIME. There was no room for anything! I liked it when they brought over two things at a time and explained what they were. Not this time! The scallopped potatoes are usually my fave...and they were awful. Soooo greasy and liquidy, I didn't enjoy them at all. DH who loves shrimp, said these were "GROSS" (his exact words) and didn't touch them after one bite. The meat was pretty good in my book...everything else was just lacking.![]()
