50s Prime Time or Sci Fi???

I know they both get mixed reviews, but we want to try one this trip during our SWW visit - never been to either before.

Which would you choose and why?

Re: 50s Prime Time or Sci Fi???

We ate at Sci-Fi during our Labor Day weekend trip. Loved the ambiance and sitting in those lil' car booths is too cool! The food is absolutely fantastic by the way!
I had the skirt steak, DW had the chicken and DMIL had the BBQ ribs and I got to eat half of their plates and it was all YUMMY!

Re: 50s Prime Time or Sci Fi???

I picked Prime Time.
We have eaten at both and we loved the ambiance of Sci Fi the food was sort of...weird! It's awesome to sit in those cars and watch the movie trailers...but then to order a steak or salmon? It's just...odd. I have heard for lunch they have more of an "onion rings and burgers" type of menu but I have never been there for that.
Now Prime Time..that's some good eating! I had the fried chicken and dave had the meatloaf and BOTH were so delicious we loved it! We had a great waitress too...she really made it worth while and the ambiance in there is very homey and nice as well...not as nice as Sci Fi but the better food made up for it!

Re: 50s Prime Time or Sci Fi???

I voted for Prime Time. I ate there on my last trip and the food was good (if you like homey style food like pot roast and fried chicken). Our waitress was not great, but the other waitress in our area was hilarious and made up for it.

Re: 50s Prime Time or Sci Fi???

I voted for Sci Fi. We only do a late lunch, and we like a more quiet atmosphere to have a conversation during meals, and we do not like to be interrupted. The old movie trailers are fun to watch also.

Re: 50s Prime Time or Sci Fi???

We actually like both - but prefer Prime Time. Love the homey comfort food and the Smores dessert is awesome. Sci-Fi was good for lunch - burgers, etc. There are 3 of us though, so someone has to sit alone behind the other 2!

The servers at PT have always been alot of fun - I'd try it if I was you!

Re: 50s Prime Time or Sci Fi???

I say Prime Time ~ but I haven't eaten there. I've been to Sci Fi and really didn't like it. For someone like me who doesn't eat seafood, I found the dinner menu very limited.

The atmosphere there was fun though.

I've never been to either, but I voted Sci Fi because of the cool cars and movies. I want to eat there one day!!!

Re: 50s Prime Time or Sci Fi???

I've never been to Prime and I don't really think I want to, to be honest. Dh and I did eat at Sci Fi in July, and it was fabulous! We were on the dining plan, so we got to sample several different things. I think we both got the ribs for our main dish, but we got different things for an appetizer and desert. Fabulous food, I will definitely eat there again! We went there for lunch, by the way.

Re: 50s Prime Time or Sci Fi???

I agree with Bella that the menu of Sci-Fi is kinda "weird" for the atmosphere - and though the Prime Time Cafe was fun the first time, I don't like being bugged while I eat - so I wouldn't really choose either - but if I had to, I'd go with Prime Time cause the "comfort food" is really quite good.

Re: 50s Prime Time or Sci Fi???

I found one of the secrets to the Prime Time this last trip. If you don't have young children with you, sit at the bar! The bartender keeps in the mood, but is not a "nag" like the "moms" are. I really enjoyed talking to Bill this last trip and of course the meat loaf is probably my favorite meal at WDW. One of the pluses for me is my Grandmother's kitchen looked just like one of the kitchens here. She had all the same materials and colors, it is just a trip back in time for me.

Sci-Fi's menu is a bit odd for the type of resturant, but it is nice to have good sea food available. My only complaint about the Sci-Fi is that you do have to make ressies. I have tried to just walk in any number of times during off season and it is always a HUGE wait for walk ins.

No question Sci-Fi. I think it is really fun.
I don't like being messed with while I eat so it will never be Prime-time for me.

Prime Time has never interested me. We ate lunch at Sci-Fi Drive in once and it was ok.
