When do they announce if the dining plan is free in September?

We will be there 9/19 - 23, staying on points at OKW. Last time, we got the DDP with our package, so I don't really know how it works otherwise. Are there differences if you stay on points?

We're going down for a convention, and won't actually be going to the park every day (shocking, I know, but the only way I could come back so soon was to go to convention! ) If we stay 4 nights, but only get tickets for 3 days, would the dining plan still be for the four nights? Can we get tickets for only 1 day and still get the plan?

We may not even be able to use most of the credits, but I'd definitely do it if it was free!

The dining plan is for the number of nights of your stay not the number of days on your ticket. If you stay in a DVC resort on points the only difference is that you don't have to buy any ticket to add the dining plan.

You won't get free dining if you are staying on points. In order to get free dining you have to pay rack rate at a Disney resort, staying on points doesn't count, sorry!

If you aren't going to be able to use most of the credits, or more importantly, if you can't use all of the sit down credits, you'll probably be wasting money. Remember, your break even point is $39 per day for food. There is also some scuttlebutt that free dining might not be offered this year, however, historically, free dining hasn't been announced until April in the past.

so, are you guys saying that you can book a package to stay at a DVC and just pay outright for them? like a package?
and then, if you are using your week of timeshare points (or however you break that down with DVC) that you can not use the dining plan?

if I am reading this right, you CAN stay at a DVC and be a regular visitor not a DVC owner?

That is correct, you can book a DVC resort as a non-member and pay cash. Then you can make it a package and add tickets and the dining plan just like any other Disney resort.

If you are interested in staying at a DVC resort you might want to look into renting points from a member, it's very affordable.

You can use the dining plan as a DVC member but you can't get the free dining that sometimes comes out.

You beat me to the answer...see what happens when I sleep in until 9:30am..lol DT is correct, you must have a MYW package to be able to get the free dining..if it comes out.

Good for you for sleeping in. We are still giving meds every 4 hours so I was up early giving Tylenol and an antibiotic.

I did some more checking, and allears says that I wouldn't have to buy any park tickets in order to get the plan. This is good for me, as I have one day left on my pass with no expiration, and plan on just adding a couple more when I get there. I didn't think it would be worth it to have to pay extra for tickets I didn't need, just to get the plan.

I don't know how much we'll use it yet, because the convention info is not out yet, but I really liked using it last month, so we'll see.

I thought you meant for the free dining. I am sorry about that. No, you don't need a pass for the dining plan while staying at a DVC. If you want the free dining however if it comes out, you will have to be on a package deal.

I stayed on points in December and paid for the plan. It was GREAT not having to buy tickets! And the plan was worth every penny to us!

We stayed at SSR on points last May and added the dining plan and love it. It made our trip so easy but it was a lot of food. I just changed our July reservation at WL to BCV and BW and added the dining plan. I almost skipped it for the second half of the trip but decided in the end to keep it.
