Another DDP question

Is the only way to add the dining plan to purchase the Magic Your Way Package plus Dining? Or is it something you can add on to just a room reservation?

Re: Another DDP question

You can't add the Dining Plan without purchasing at least a one-day base ticket for each person. We have annual passes, but bought one-day tickets to get the DP.

Re: Another DDP question

Oh, I'll be getting either a 7 or 8 day park hopper but I didn't want to buy a vacation package if I didn't have to. It's just a little bit of money to save on. So, if I buy my tickets and book my resort without a package, can I add on DDP?

I believe that the tickets make it a package, if you buy from WDW. The math gets a little tricky- there are a few things to consider:
-purchasing your tickets somewhere else vs from WDW (you can save $ if you use a reputable reseller)
-using a resort discount for the room vs rack rate
-cost of DP vs anticipated cost for food
-time of year and ability to make ADRs. You don't want to be stuck with meal credits!

You can't use a room discount and purchase the DP. This has always made the DP a poor value for us, as we have APs and the Disney Dining Experience card (20% off food AND drinks). Also, my DS who is 11 is charged the adult price (over 9), but is a very light eater. So, unless the DP is free for our Aug/Sept trip, we won't use the DP.

Re: Another DDP question

Well, then I guess I'll just have to purchase the package. I don't know of any discounts for when we're going and having been to WDW so many times before, I know that we'd spend way more than $40/day on food each. We could spend that on one meal easily! It's fine if I have to do the package, I just thought if I could book everything separately, it would save me a bit of money. Oh well!

There always seems to be AAA rates, by the way!

Re: Another DDP question

Leslie H brings up some good points. We also have annual passes and DDE membership and went ala carte in 2005. However, last year, with free dining, the math changed. We did a split stay at AKL/Contemporary and bought the minimum one day tickets and used the ticket credits towards our AP renewals. We payed rack rate for the room, but with a daily food offset of $120 it didn't matter as much. Also, it was a value rate season.
