Are the Disney Chef's accomodating for picky eaters?

In a previous thread i mentioned Sandy and I choosing our ADR's without looking at menu's so as not to influence any choices. I printed out the menu's from our ADR choices and last night we sat down and went over everything. There are a lot of entrees that are very tasting looking to Sandy but then they toss in something like "Portabello Mushroom Sauce" and that just destroys it for her. She grew up eating steak with steak and just steak. No marinate. No steak sauce. Period. When we go out now, she's always asking the server if it's possible to hold this, or cook this without that so i'm wondering if the Disney Chef's are as accomodating? I want her to try new things but i don't want to force her to get something she really doesn't want just because she can't get something made the way she'd like. Neither of us are big Seafood eaters anyway, so that leaves that out of the mix for the both of us. But when it comes to steak and chicken, we both love it, but how it's prepared and served would look totally different when it's brought to us.

I'm trying to avoid any possibility of at any of our nights out for dinner.

Re: Are the Disney Chef's accomodating for picky eaters?

You can request things to be left off meals like sauces. As a picky eater myself, I do this all the time. There will be an entree that I am totally wanting and then I will see that it has something I consider to be gross on it and I will ask for it to be made plain...I have never had an issue getting exactly what I ask for. My DD is the same and always alters the entrees...WDW is very cool about this kinda thing.

Thanks Dana... i was hoping that too. I know Disney chef's are a creative bunch and i'd hate to have them compromise their standards by bringing out some bland & boring entree just to please Sandy

But she can be beyond picky sometimes and she's not very daring when it comes to food.

They bend over backwards to meet the needs of their guests.

Re: Are the Disney Chef's accomodating for picky eaters?

I have never yet had an experience where the Chef's in any Disney restaurant have not been accomodating to us or should I say my MIL's needs! She is the most picky of eaters, everything must be plain, no sauce at all. We always ask our server in a poilte manner if they could ask the chef do help our request and never been disappointed. I am certain you will be fine wherever you go.

Re: Are the Disney Chef's accomodating for picky eaters?

You can always ask that they put the sauce on the side, and then she might dip the steak in it to try. My DH is a very picky eater (He'll not even approach ANYTHING resembling meatloaf or that has green peppers in it) and when we travel, I "encourage" him to try 1 new dish that he has never had, especially if we are on a cruise or at a buffet. That way, he feels like he didn't pay for something and hated it, and I get the satisfaction of opening his mind to new foods. (I was raised in restaurant industry and love to try new stuff!) So far, he has found foods he likes that he thought he didn't! (And a few he still thinks are yucky!)

Re: Are the Disney Chef's accomodating for picky eaters?

Like the others said..yes!
Disney Chefs are probably more accomidating than any other restaurant..I am allergic to mushrooms and once at Beirgarten the waitress too me up to the buffet and pointed out items I should not eat, but said they could make them for me without mushrooms if I wanted...i didn't do it bc it seemed like a pain..but its still very nice!

Re: Are the Disney Chef's accomodating for picky eaters?

My daughter's a vegetarian and when there's been nothing on the menu that appeals to her, we'll mention it to the server and the chefs have bent over backward to accomodate her. They'll ask what she'd like - pasta, veggies, etc. and they've created some great meals out of ingredients she likes.

I don't see why you would have any problem - I've asked them to leave off sauces or have them on the side. It's never been a problem.

Good luck in your planning - it so much fun to try new restaurants!
