Dining help

I have 2 days where I have no dining plans. The one day we will be spending partially at Sea World. I was thinking about grabbing b-fast at PC food court and hoping to dine at DTD this night. We don't have to stick by either of these ideas, so I would love to hear suggetions. The second day we have no dinner plans we will be spending at MK. I don't know if I should eat at the park or go somewhere else. Let me add that I am not crazy about Crystal Palace, we are eating at Tony's earlier in the week and I have NEVER had any counter service in MK.

Re: Dining help

I am curious about why you are not crazy about CP. One of the reasons we like it is that there seems to be something for everybody at the buffet, but if the buffet is what you don't like, then that's a different story. Maybe you could try the character meal at Sea World? I think Llama mentioned it in one of her trip reports, it sounded very nice. As far as counter service in the MK, there is Cosmic Rays which is pretty good, and I have heard good things about the Columbia Harbor House(I think that's what its called).

Re: Dining help

I have found that a CS is a CS at WDW. It doesn't matter what park you're in or which venue you are getting your food from, if it's CS, the food is all alike.

As far as a sit-down meal close to MK, have you considered Chef Mickey's or Ohana's? You could hop the monorail to Contemporary or Poly, eat and go back to MK via the monorail.

Re: Dining help

we are doing whispering canyon on MK day (well, one of them anyway)! also doing Ohana on MK day. We really wanted to try Kona Cafe, but not enough days (oh, if only we could add another day to the trip!)!

CS at MK - Casey's - love the hot dogs!

Re: Dining help

I think the menu at The Plaza in the MK looks like a nice change from heavy TS meals. I read that some people think it's not the best way to use the DDP (cost comparison to somewhere like Kona) but I read that the food is fresh and tasty.

LTT gets rave reviews for lunch (no characters), if you want a sit down for lunch instead of dinner (a nice air conditioned break in the day).

If you want to leave the park, would you want to try 1900PF?

As for CS at MK, we liked Pinocchio's in Fantalsyland. They have figaro fries, chicken strips, sandwiches and some other items. I had an excellent salad at Pecos Bill's (everyone else ahd urgers, I think).

Did someone mention moi?

Yes - we did Dining with Shamu and enjoyed it very much. It was set up outdoors around Shamu's private tanks and during dinner a trainer spoke to us about the whales, answered questions, etc., while Shamu & friends swam around. The buffet was good - lots of selections. I don't really like buffets - but this one was good. I don't remember the cost - but if you go to the Sea World site you should get all the info there. We've also eaten at the new restaurant in the Shark Exhibit. The food was good, but it was VERY expensive. I don't think we'd go back. The restaurants along the Waterfront also have good selections. If you eat there try the chocolate cake (or just get a piece as a snack). It is the BEST chocolate cake in the entire WORLD!!

At MK we LOVE Columbia Harbour House. It might sound boring, but they've got the BEST tuna salad sandwich in the World! I've also heard good things about the Plaza Restaurant - Disney Teacher can vouch for it. At the Marketplace in DTD we always eat at Earl of Sandwich. When we can drag ourselves away from it, Wolfgang Puck Express is a good option too.

Are the hot dogs really good? We were thinking of doing this also for a MK CS!

We always eat at Columbia Harbour House and Pecos Bill's for CS and they are good! Maybe give those a try?

Re: Dining help

we really enjoyed the hotdogs! there was a bar to top it with all kinds of stuff (kraut, onions, etc). we got hotdogs, fries and cokes and sat & ate them while waiting for the parade (it was a late night, so we snacked, then had a late lunch, then later dinner). it was so good - we are planning to do it again this year - during MNSSHP!

Re: Dining help

I'd suggest switching Ohana to Kona Cafe, it is that good.
As for the comment that all counter service locations are the same, check out Sunshine Seasons in The Land in Epcot. This is not your standard counter service.
As for the question of the thread, consider that Sea World has a sit down restaurant called Sharks (similar to Coral Reef) and keep in mind that Annheiser Busch has good food in all of their parks. If you want a counter service in MK, I'd suggest Cosmic Ray's which features burgers and dogs as well as BBQ chicken and ribs that are decent and entertainment in the form of audioanimatronic Sonny Eclipse. If you aren't using any dining credits this day, consider stopping for dinner at House of Blues if you want to go to DTD.

Re: Dining help

We really like the Plaza Restaurant and try to hit it every trip. It's a nice change from big heavy meals and burgers.

Have you thought about going to a MK resort to eat? 'Ohana, Kona Cafe, and Whispering Canyon Cafe are all popular places.

We are eating at Kona Cafe earlier, but for b-fast. I have a thing for the pineapple-macadamia pancakes! Whispering Canyon was a no go for dinner. The timing was bad, so that will be a b-fast as well. I was tossing around 'Ohana as I have never eaten dinner here, but I think it would be a hard sell for my picky husband. I do like the look of the Plaza menu. Is this a table dinner (meaning with a server) or do you order an find a table?

I was trying to figure out if we would be in Sea World still around dinner. I know that we will be in DTD this night and I was just thinking we would eat there. I LOVED House of Blues when I went in New Orleans and Las Vegas. Maybe we will go there. I never seem to make it to that side of DTD for some reason.

Re: Dining help

I went to the House of Blues in Chicago and all I got was a tee shirt. Well, in my defense, I had to be back out in Rosemont by 6:30 to meet the group for dinner. In DTD, and also on dining plan, if that matters, is Cap't Jack's, which seems to get good reviews by a ratio of 3:1. If cost doesn't matter, Fulton's Crab House is one of my favorites. Try the lobster bisque and milk chocolate creme brulee.

I am not on the dining plan. I haven't eaten at Fulton's in years. They were good! Creme brulee is my favorite dessert so this is tempting. YUMMUY!!!!!
