Food Allergies -- How to Deal

Hey guys -- sorry for all the questions, but this has to be the BEST discussion board ever.

Anyways, completing the planning for the ADRs and seeing alot of posts about food and special accomodations, so here is the question....

I am VERY allergic to coconut -- most of the time I can just see it in things and skip those foods -- but is there something more I should do to be safe.

Also my best friend who will be along for the trip is allergic to shrimp -- not as bad as my coconut allergy but still.

I will bring my epi-pen in case of accidental exposure

I saw a thread on here once that said WDW will make special meals for people with allergies. You are so right, this is the best board ever!!

Re: Food Allergies -- How to Deal

If you make your ADRs ahead of time you can call and make arrangements ahead of time for the chef to create something without coconut or shrimp. Disney is really good about people with food allergies. My understanding is that they have special pots and pans set aside so there's no intermixing and possible contamination. I've also heard of people telling their server about their allergy and a chef comes out to discuss what to cook. If you check Allears they have lots of info on how to handle it.

Re: Food Allergies -- How to Deal

We were at the WDW with my sister who has many food allergies. When we made ADRs I told the CM about her allergies. At all of the TS the chef or assistant came out to discuss what was in the dish she was ordering.
The were very accomadating.

I agree with all previous posters...call Disney Dining and have the allergies noted on your ressie. Then, when you check in for your ADRs, let them know right away what the allergies are. They will accomodate you!

They are great if you have food allergies. Tim is allergic to mushrooms, and they have always been very careful with his meals. Just let them know when you get there, and you will be fine.

My son is allergic to milk and since I am still feeding him, I can not have dairy. Every place we went, the chef came out talked with me and discussed the menu or took me through the buffett. At whispering canyon, the chef even made special roasted potatos for me.

They are very willing to help you.

I would tell your server and as others said they will check items out with the chef or the chef may come out. I'm sure you will be well taken care of.

Re: Food Allergies -- How to Deal

My only food allergy is Lobster... i've had it twice now and got really sick. The first time was on on a cruise ship and i wasn't sure if it was because of the boat rocking back and forth? Decided to try Red Lobster a year or so later and sure enough, got sick again.

So me and the Red Claw dude don't get along

Re: Food Allergies -- How to Deal

My DS is allergic to strawberries and my DH is allergic to walnuts. We always mention it and the chef usually comes out to go in detail about the menu/ingredients and he does it with a smile (we've never had a bad experience)

Re: Food Allergies -- How to Deal

My DS is allergic to walnuts and pecans, we carry an epi-pen and the Benadryl fast melts with us wherever we go. Disney is very helpful and accomodating. :)
