ADR's were definitely needed!

Well, as mentioned in other posts, I had 2 friends (different families) that were in WDW recently. One was the young widow whose husband was killed in Afghanistan before Christmas, & the other was a girl that I work with. Just wanted to update you all on their ADR situations. Kerry (military widow), had not wanted the ADR's at all, but I had convinced her to make them anyway just as back-up. Well, she got there & was able to get a ressie for the Pricesses in Epcot , which we had not been able to do before she left. This was a great surprise for them. However, she really did not want to be on a schedule, so she cancelled all of her other ADR's that we had made. She simply used her table service meals at the counter service restaurant @ Pop Century. I recently called Disney to ask if we could do this & was told "No". Anyway, they did it. They were more than happy to use their meals this way, but since it was a first time trip, they really don't know what great food they missed out on. However, since they just wanted their vacation to be a trip without "appointments" , I think that this was great for them.

The second friend came back & the first thing she did was thank me for really insisting that she make ADR's. She said that they were in line at a number of restaurants & overheard people trying to get in , & these other people were told that there were no places available. My point is that ADR's were definitely needed, & it felt good to have given her what she called "great advice".

Thanks for the update on using her TS for CS places. I didn't know you could do that and don't know if I would, but it's nice to know you can if you get stuck.

Yeah, I thought so too. We actually made 2 separate reservations for upcoming trip because we didn't want to be on a schedule for the whole trip. But this may change things. I just wonder if this is policy or were they just lucky to get a knowlegeable CM who knew how to do it for them.

Not sure. You should ask her. I am very interested in how they did this and what was included. CAn't hurt to have a back up plan if you decide to bail on a ADR.

Re: ADR's were definitely needed!

Did your cousin and her family enjoy their trip? I was thinking about them while we were there. I'm glad they got to do the Princess breakfast at Epcot.

At the end of our trip we had two TS credits left. DH went to use them for breakfast one morning at the CS at SSR. He had no problem using them, he simply asked a CM what he was allowed to get with a TS credit at breakfast. He was entitled to get any breakfast plate, a drink and a dessert, which he used to get two yummy chocolate croissants. I admit that it wasn't the best use of a TS, and I wouldn't do it by choice, but it was our last morning and if we didn't use them we would have payed OOP and left the two TS credits unused -- that just didn't make any sense.

Re: ADR's were definitely needed!

I had heard at one time they were actually giving bonuses (free pin or something) to people who were willing to use their TS credits at CS...no one remembers this? Maybe I'm just going crazy...or maybe it was just during a certain time frame. I don't know maybe it's just my pregnant mind.

Re: ADR's were definitely needed!

There are some places that you WON'T get into with ADRs to be sure - Le Cellier for example. Others depends when you go and when you want to eat.

I too hate to be tied down to a schedule so I generally only do a couple of ADRs per trip.

But after crusing DCL, I just want to have all of my meals on the ships!
