Reserve or not to reserve?

I always get nervous as I head down to disney without a single reservation. The last two times I went I just winged it and had no problem. When I get down I call a few nights in advance if i really want something. Or if im in the park I go and see if they end up with any openings that night, if not I usually get in for the next night fine.

I usually have no problem eating late, i guess that is why it works out?

Anybody else do this?

Re: Reserve or not to reserve?

you will be there during free dining - so I'd say make as many ADR's as possible! you can cancel if you need to. but, with it being a guys trip - you may not want that structure! so, yep, I am no help at all!

Re: Reserve or not to reserve?

thanks for the advice, the free dinning can get pretty nuts. Like you said, I can always cancel. The good thing is some people start booking when they run the free dinning special that they cancel when they get there, that is prop how I lucked out last year. there are about three places I def want so I will make some reservations this week (should be the best bet since im about 30 days out) thanks again.

Hello, my fellow Long Islander!!!!!

I just want to say, you really should make some ADRs asap! With it being Free Dining and all, you don't want to be shut out of your favorite places! BTW, which 3 places do you want to book? Inquiring minds want to know!

Re: Reserve or not to reserve?

Also consider you're there over Labor Day weekend, again a good reason to at least have some reservations made as insurance.

Re: Reserve or not to reserve?

I take the opposite approach, and make ADRs in advance. While I'm there I can always change them if I want, but this way I have something already planned at places I already know I like.

Re: Reserve or not to reserve?

I'll just add my 2 cents - book some ADRs. You're going at such a busy time, dining-wise. We made our ADRs in March. I decided to change the day of one and found that the restaurant (Coral Reef) is now totally booked for the whole week.

You can always cancel them. If I have to cancel, I try to do it as early as possible, so that someone else can take advantage of the cancellation.

Re: Reserve or not to reserve?

Coral reef was one of my top three. Last time they told me it was booked solid in advance, i kept calling every day I was there to see if I could get in, i finally got in one day for lunch. I remember we ended eating at some really random time between lunch and dinner. I really hope I can eat there at some point.

My other tops are Spoodles, the brewery place (not sure of the name) on the Boardwalk. Also another one I did have trouble getting into was the Drive in theatre restaurant (again not sure of the name) in MGM.

Now that I think about it my top list is getting bigger, I love the Lady and the tramp in Magic Kingdom. Also there is an Italian place in MGM which had good atmosphere (i didn't go for the Italian food since it is hard to please a New Yorker raised on his grandmas home cooking, but it was better then expected. lady in the tramp place is better for Italian food) but when we ate there for lunch we walked in and had the place to ourselves. I think it is across from Buzz light years pizza place in MGM. OMG, it keeps getting bigger another one is the restaurant in the Wilderness lodge.

Ok, Ok, I'm convinced I need some ADR's plus I'm going to have to pull out the restaurant guide from my last trip for all the names.

Re: Reserve or not to reserve?

We noticed that we were able to get into most all of the rest. that we had ADR's for earlier than we were scheduled to eat. I think that people are scheduling ADR's and often not showing for them. This making walk ins possible. So do not be discouraged if you do not get an ADR due to already being booked... still give it a try as a walk in.. you may be surprised.

i wing it and have no problems. i've walked into san angel inn, liberty tree tavern, le celier etc etc. and gotten in.... so, if you've had good luck in the past, i wouldn't sweat it.

I agree if there is some you REALLY want to go too . . . only a few charge a cancellation fee . . . make an ADR . . . but winging it sounds fun too!! Cuz sometimes you have a reservation and you're not even hungry!
