I was wondering if just my DH and I were to make a reservation at the California Grill ...... could we just have appetizers and dessert? I thought that would be fun to do to watch the fireworks. Or is it a no no not to order a dinner?

Absolutely! That is exactly what DH and I plan on doing next time too. We already know what we are ordering! Spicy Sensation (sushi) and Butterscotch Buzz....yum!

Just make sure you make an ADR as you would for dinner and then you can sit in the lounge and order if you would like (as not to take a table away from those who may be ordering dinners) You will still have a great view of MK for Wishes if you time it right.

So if you just want appetizers you make an ADR and ask to sit in the lounge? Is the lounge by reservation only?? It sounds like fun and I want to make sure I do it right, we are only 12 days out and I may be too late, but we are staying at the Contemporary anyway. For wishes, what is the best reservation time?

OMG, I just saw that you are only 11 day out till your vaca! Cool! We'll be there at the same time and right next door!

I would try to make the ADR for about 30-45 minutes before Wishes.

I would ask when you call to make the ADR about just drinks appys.

When we were there, I had an ADR for dinner. They would not even let us up the elevator without an ADR, but once we were there, they seated us in the lounge until our table was ready. (about 20 minutes later) We were offered to be served drinks, appys or our meals while in the lounge instead of waiting for our table. We really wanted to have dinner that night, so we waited. You could order anything you want while in the lounge.

Just had to post these for you....these are the appetizers we ordered last time we were there. Lobster Claw with blood orange reduction and Spicy Sensation.

And of course my Appletini!

....and for dessert we had Warm Chocolate Varlhona Cake and Butterscotch Buzz! YUMMY!





I might have to make a trip over just for these two neighbor!!!!

I'm definately going over to the Poly for an Island Breezer (I believe that was what it was called). I have been waiting for a year for another one!

'What is in an Island breezer? I love the Lapu Lapus.....but they don't like me, especially the next morning.

I can't remember what was in it but it's a frozen fruity orangy pinappley drink. Very yummy!

Wow. Everyone seems a lot more impressed with the California Grill than we were.

We made reservations 180 days in advance for dinner following my son and daughter-in-laws Disney Wedding. We arrived by limo about an hour prior to the reservation. The entire party, all still dressed in our wedding clothes, had no where to sit to wait for our table and stood in the entrance hall for well over an hour. Finally a table opened in the lounge and we waited another good 30 minutes for our dinner table. Once at our table, adjacent a window facing MK and just in time for the fireworks (part of the plan for the wedding festivities) they announced that once the lights were dimmed for no one to move from their seat yet as soon as the fireworks started multiple people from other sides of the restaurant got up and stood directly in front of us so that none of our wedding party could see the show! Our waiter paid no attention to this at all and I finally had to get up and go try to find management to get the people to move... when they were finally told to return to their own tables, one of the patrons who was standing in the way actually swore at me on her way beck to her table and still the staff did nothing. This same patron then came back to our table after the fireworks and had the nerve to approach my son, on his wedding day, and tell him off. Now I know that the establishment can't be responsible for the customers actions, but I was so distraught and disappointed that they allowed this behavior that I will never go back to the California Grill. That is the only bad experience we have ever had at Disney but it sure did not end the wedding day on a pleasant note.
