Teppanyaki refurb going slow?

So I keep reading on other boards that the refurb of Teppanyaki (sp?) is going much slower than anticipated and the restaurant won't actually re open until October. I have a reservation for Thursday 9/13 and the last time I called, I was told not to worry that the restaurant would be open by then. But I'm a little worried. What happens if they don't open on time? Should I go ahead and make another reservation somewhere else just incase? We're already having dinner at Biergarten 2 days prior, and have already eaten at Rose and Crown and Le Cellier and San Angel.

I'm afraid now that I won't be able to get a ressie so close to the trip, especially because we're going to be a party of 6 at that time. Any words of advice??

Re: Teppanyaki refurb going slow?

I'm on hold for a reservation at Teppan-Edo (the new name) for Sept 23, but nothing is being released. From what I've been told, reopening is still scheduled for Aug 20.
That is, the Boardwalk Planning Office has notations in my folio that I still need a dining reservation in Epcot on the 23rd and both Coral Reef and le Cellier are unavailable, so they're monitoring them as well as Teppan-Edo in case something opens up. I'm not sitting here on the phone on hold. Today.

Re: Teppanyaki refurb going slow?

I have a reservation for the second week of Sept. They're still saying an August 20 opening.

Re: Teppanyaki refurb going slow?

Well, it's not going to be open Aug. 20th. I received a voice mail last night asking me to call about my ADR for the 22rd. I just got off the phone , they expect renovations to continue, "into the fall" was all the CM could say. She was very sweet and was able change our Le Cellier booking for a dinner seating, I've been trying for that for 5 wks now. I had one TS spot open previously and decided to commit to Citricos now that I had two open.

And, when that was done she asked if we were going to Epcot on any other night? She could give me VIP seating for Illuminations!

The boys are disappointed about Tappen Edo, but will be stoked about the VIP seating. We'll just have to go back to see the renovations .

Were you told to call the regular number WDW-DINE or did you have a special number to call? I really want to follow up on this and have a back up plan ASAP

Re: Teppanyaki refurb going slow?

I would try to get a back up adr (with a different phone # i guess if they won't let you do 2 for same time frame) - just to be safe. then, when you konw for sure, cancel one of them. but, that's just me - i couldn't stand to not know if we got to eat there or if we were gonna have to wing it. if i'm planning on winging it, its one thing, but the surprise winging it would drive me nuts!

good luck!!

Not WDW Dine, it was a different number. I called late so it went to voice mail and the message referred directly to my M. Teppanyaki booking. I'm sure they'll call you if MT needs to be cancelled, and then there should be a perk in it for you.

My feeling is, if they call to cancel, they are highly motivated to find you a replacement seating, but a second booking now might give you peace of mind just in case.

Re: Teppanyaki refurb going slow?

We were there in February, right before it closed (thank you Cavey for the PS tip!), and while we loved it very much and had a terrific night, it was clear that the restaurant needed an awful lot of work. Sorry some of you are waiting to see if you'll get a seating, but I think it will be worth the wait. Fingers crossed...

Re: Teppanyaki refurb going slow?

I'm not really worried one way or another. If it's closed we'll find something else.

Re: Teppanyaki refurb going slow?

Well, I did call today and, YES, they are indeed expecting a delay of approx. 2 months. This would bring the opening up to the end of October. Either way, the CM on the phone was very understanding and said she was surprised no one had called me to cancel yet. We rebooked at Restaurant Marrekesh and got the same VIP seating deal for Illuminations as Whitba.

I too, am a little dissapointed about the restaurant being closed, since last trip we specificallys said we were planning on going here, but oh well. We've never done Marrekesh anyway, so it will be something different and interesting!

Re: Teppanyaki refurb going slow?

Hmmm - the only thing that annoys me is that it's going to mess up Dana's Perfect Planner....I won't touch it - I'll just have to remember to eat somewhere else.

Glad to hear they were able to help you and your got the VIP viewing. 2 Months, wow -

We loved the food at Marrekesh, different but not so different that the kids complained - they had a chicken dish that they loved. Decor is awesome and staff were wonderfull - hopefully you all enjoy it.

Re: Teppanyaki refurb going slow?

We got "the call" today and changed to Marrakesh - doesn't make much difference to me. We also got the VIP viewing for Illuminations - but they didn't make it clear just how exactly we're suppose to find this. They gave us a VIP number - do we mention it in the restaurant - does anyone know?
