California Grill

I am going to the California Grill for the first time this November. I do not like sushi, so other than that what are some suggestions for dinner, appetizer, and desert?

Inspired by "The Year of a Million Dreams" - Honey Crunch Cake with Chantilly Cream and Oven-roasted Golden Pineapple and Crunch Candy Crumble $10

Cheese Selections (frequently changes) all 5 for $17

Bandage Wrapped Cheddar - Fiscalini Farmstead of Modesto, California is the producer of this traditional English-style cheddar, 30 months of aging help develop this wonderful cheese. Nutty and creamy, with a developed tang make this cheddar as fine as any. This cheese pairs well with our pear paste.

Ubriaco Rosso - Traditional, hard cheese made from pasteurized sheep's milk. The name of the cheese means "drunken" in Italian and it is because the young cheese is soaked in wine, covered with the crushed grape skins left after pressing and then allowed to mature for six to ten months. The cheese has a firm, crumbly but open texture that is fairly wet and the taste has a hint of acidity. Enjoy this selection with our spiced Marcona almonds.

Bergblume - Raw cooked curd cow's milk cheese made in the tradition of Gruyere, but only 15 lbs. or so as opposed to 75, so the effects of aging are more pronounced. The name Bergblume means "mountain flower," and this cheese's other very particular characteristic is that it is washed in a solution of herbs and flowers which give its rind a deep pine green color and its flavor profile intense herbaceous notes. Pair this cheese with honey comb.

Cypress Grove Farms Humboldt Fog - Cypress Grove Farms uses a central layer of ash in this aged goat cheese. Once cut, it resembles the early morning fog that covers the farm daily. A semi-soft and creamy texture. Indulge your taste buds by eating this cheese with fig cake.

Fourme d'Ambert - The Auvergne region of France produces this wonderful mild blue cheese. Raw cow's milk and time-honored techniques are used to produce this selection. Considered one of the longest produced cheeses of France. Complement this cheese with apple-date compote.

Important Note regarding Sugar Free Desserts at California Grill - The standard offering is gourmet sugar free chocolates. As of 4/07, no ingredient list for the chocolates was available. To receive a different sugar free dessert, you MUST indicate on your reservation what you can and can not have - be specific! Call 72 hours in advance and then follow up the day before and when you arrive at the restaurant, still no guarantee! The cheese platter is wonderful if you don't want to go through all this.

Re: California Grill

We all went (7 adults - well, 7 over 16 yrs old) and had a variety. The Flat breads were very good. I have a steak, while others had the pork and seafood. Everyone enjoyed dinner. One of the few times there was no whining from one of the mini mice.

Re: California Grill

We just came back last week The night we arrived we ate at Cal Grill, it was wonderful , what can I say... 2 adults, 2 - 17 yr old boys, we enjoyed every bite.

App - Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli, Flat Breads - Triple Cheese and Roasted Chicken
Main - Buffalo Strip Steak & Filet of Beef
Dessert - Valrhona Chocolate and Coffee, Blueberry Bliss, Cheese Platter

By the time Dessert hit so did the major fatigue that goes with getting up at 2:30 AM to catch a flight... so DH & I just shared a bit of plain vanilla ice cream but the boys almost licked the plates through all 3 courses.

rlb, if you like cheese, you HAVE to try the cheese platter! They serve up to 5 cheeses (try them all, you won't be disappointed) varying from mild to pretty sharp. They also serve an accompanyment with each cheese that brings out the flavor and texture of each one. For example, they served candied almonds with one of the cheeses and a pear paste with another. I have to admit, this was a very unique and satisfying dining experience. Enjoy!

Ditto on the cheese platter, it is to die for!!! I forget our entrees, but they were all great. We had 11 in our party and their were no complaints. We also ordered a desert tray, with one of everything for the tray. I love the California Grill, every thing from the food, to the service, to the atmosphere was excellent.

Re: California Grill

I was there last Wednesday. We had THE BEST table in the house! I don't know how I was able to get that table, but all I did was ask and I received! The view from CG is AMAZING!!!!!!!

The food was pretty good, although DH did not think it was worth 2 TS credits at all. Maybe for the atmosphere, but he wasn't so impressed with the food.

I don't eat sushi AT ALL. Here is what we got:

APP: I got BLT Flatbread Pizza....OMG, YUM!!!! DH got Rainbow Roll Sushi...said it was pretty good

ENTREE: I got Oak-fired Filet of Beef...pretty good, but not NEARLY as good as Le Cellier

DESSERT: I got Valrhona Chocolate with Vanilla Ice Cream and DH got Blueberry Bliss. Both were good.

We got a bottle of wine, too. All in all, a very nice dinner. Worth 2 TS credits? Maybe, maybe not. But since we weren't paying for it, OF COURSE it was worth it!!!!

Love the Spicy Sensation too!

We really enjoyed our desserts the most. We had the warm Valrhona cake and Butterscotch Buzz. Both were fantastic!

I know their menu changes seasonally, so its hard to recommend a particular entree.

Re: California Grill

If on the dining plan how many choices do we get when eating at CG. Is it the same as other table service; appetizer, entree, and desert. If so is the flatbread an appetizer?

Re: California Grill

Flatbreads should be appetizers. We've gotten sushi and sashimi as appetizers up there. It is exactly as any other TS location, except for the two credits you'll use.
One thing to keep in mind. Even if you dine there well before fireworks, if you dined at California Grill that day, you are allowed back upstairs to view MK fireworks from the roof. Otherwise, I'd say you'll do fine for viewing that evening's fireworks if you have an 8 PM reservation, any time of the year, other than nights they are performed at 8 PM.
