Disney Character Meal?

We're only weeks away from our trip:D and I want to reserve a disney character meal for the children. We're not staying on site this trip  so we have to make it as special as possible for the 3 DS. Any suggestions? Should we do a breakfast, lunch or dinner? Who has the best? Is it too late to make reservations? Are there any that don't need reservations? Okay, Okay, I'm trying not to panic but I that's my style whenever we go on vacation!!;)

All suggestions are welcome!

12 days and counting!!! (still can't remember how to add my counter)

LOLOL - just keep one suitcase in Perma Pack mode with all that stuff and you'll be all set. :D

With three boys, I highly recommend the cauchophony and energy of Chef Mickey's. I also recommend a bit more laid back, child friendly Ohana's.

I love the character breakfasts, a great way to start of the day.

I'd schedule PS's for both of those, oh wait, this is May, you might be able to wing it, but I like to be a little prepared.

We made a ps one time the same day we went to the park. it just depends on where you go. Liberty Tree Taven is good for dinner. Crystal Palace is good for B,L,D. Who is your DS fav. characters that will help to tell you whice one to do.

jbjags, we just got back from 7 days at the Poly. Although we made PSs for Princess breakfast in Norway, lunch with Pooh in the Crystal Palace, dinner at 1900 Park Fare (best eating/character experience of our entire trip), and dinner at Chef Mickey's, in hindsight, we should have made more. For 3 DSs, I would absolutely go with Chef Mickey's first, then Crystal Palace (Pooh and friends). The Princess Breakfast in Norway and 1900 Park Fare are both excellent, but may be more geared towards girls. There are a few others, Ohana's, Coral Reef, etc. but I can't vouch for them personally.

We have 2 young DDs, 3 and 5, and they are often hard to accomodate foodwise. Sometimes the food in the parks is just not enough to sustain the little ones, let alone keeping our own tastes satisfied. There is nothing better than to relax to a character meal or just a PS meal when you have been in the parks all day. By scheduling a PS, you are somewhat constrained to allow yourself time to make the PS time, but if you don't have a clear idea where to eat when the moment arrives, it can be very frustrating, WDW is BIG. Our next trip, we will be making as many PSs as possible to guarantee that everyone will be eating properly and not relying on the personal pizzas and chicken strips offered in the cafeteria style grab and go places. In Captain Cooks in the Poly, for instance, the burgers are only cooked as well done. They keep the cooked patties in hot water until someone orders one, where they may quickly fry it to heat it up. I saw this myself just this past Friday while I was waiting for one of those $5.49 pizzas. You don't want to rely on this kind of eating experience for too long, or not at all. WDW has too many great places to eat to have to deal with this.

Chef Mickey's .. we have never made a PS there .. we just show up ..of course we arent the PS kind .. we dont mind waiting for a table if the wait isnt long ..and most the time we have never had to wait more then 30 minutes. Last year we were seated at Chef Mickey's with in 15 minutes.

character meals to me are worth paying extra for. the joy in the kids eyes of seeing that character interact with him or her is just great. we are doing 11 character meals this time. It is great.

Ohana, is good as well. We also like Liberty Tree Taven for dinner. Hollywood and Vine was good until the stopped doing it. Anyone know why the did stop.

If I were you I would definetly call now to make PS. Yeah, you may be able to get in with out it but I wouldn't want to risk a long wait with 3 kids. Chef Mickey's would be the best with DS's. We didn't get to go in March because they were completely booked. Our DD LOVED Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Fare. We plan on attending at least 3 next time:
CRT
Crystal Palace
Chef Mickey's

And we may add another one, who knows.

Like jbjags said, it really depends on who your favorite characters are. And I would DEFINITELY make PSs! There's nothing like getting all geared up for something & then not be able to do it! If you prefer Mickey & his gang, either Chef Mickey's (breakfast or dinner) or Liberty Tree Tavern (dinner only). You could also do breakfast at Cape May Cafe. If Pooh & friends rock for your group, however, for sure check out Crystal Palace for any meal. It's wonderful!

My DS are 3, 4 and 11 so we like almost all of the characters. It sounds like I can't go wrong with Chef Mickey so that will be my first choice. I've read good things about Liberty Tree Tavern on other posts so that will probably be the second choice. My DH thinks we should stick to dinner because the 3 DS aren't big lunch time eaters. They prefer a pbj, which I can pack in the car!

Thanks everyone for all of the suggestions, now it's off to the basement to pull out the summer clothes

Were adults with no children but we have enjoyed lunch at Crystal Palace, Liberty Tree Tavern and Garden Grill. We always make ressie's and usually only have a 5 minute wait if that. You may want to check out a site called wdwig.com as she has a lot of the menu's up, pricing and which character are usually at those meals.

Just like yecats, we're adults (most of the time) with no kids (yet). We enjoy Cape May's Character Breakfast - my DH is a die-hard Goofy fan and he is one of the main characters there! We have also enjoyed Chef Mickey's in the past...we ended up at a character breakfast purely by accident. I would definitely make PSs right away though so you are not dissapointed when you arrive. :)

All,

We just got back yesterday and had a great time. :D We did dinner at The Garden Grille at Epcot. It was fantastic. My DH loved the food and the 3 DS loved the frequent character visits. Thanks for the suggestions from everyone;)
