Icon5 DDP for a 10yr old that doesnt eat alot

I know there are others on here with the same issue, but my DD just turned 10 and I dont think she is ready to order "adult" meals, I think she would be perfectly fine eating off the childs menu because she doesnt eat alot, she rarely finishes her meals, and there is no way that she would eat $38 worth of food a day!

So my question is, when you book a pkg with WDW, will they accomodate and let your child eat off the childrens menu and adjust the price to a child price????

I dont mind paying the Junior price for her for the hotel and park ticket portion but I feel Iam throwing my $$ away when I would be paying for her on the DDP for an adult price!

I think I will call CRO and ask them about it.
I also thought of another scenario..... dont know which would be better...
....Pay the 2 adult prices for the DDP, order her meal off the child menu (when avail.), pay OOP for her child meal and save the extra credit to book another meal..... ????
I really like the DDP, more so that I know it's pre-paid and I dont have to worry about saving up all that extra $$ for food. Iam bummed about the tip being not included but what can you.... I like things PRE PAID!
And as most of you know, I ALWAYS go over our allotment of meals and end up paying some meals OOP. Sooo.... I could always bank those credits to book other meals....

Has anyone ever asked Disney about this yet????

Iam sure they must get this question alot.... mostly from ppl that have been to WDW before...

I can't see my DD eating off the adult menu yet and wasting even MORE food!

Re: DDP for a 10yr old that doesnt eat alot

There was actually an answer to this question on the new website where people ask questions about anything Disney to the panel. There was a question about the 10 year old being on the adult dining plan and I don't think you can put them on the childs plan.

I'm right there with you, my son turns 10 during our next trip. I'm sure the answer is no, once they turn ten you will have to pay the adult price or skip the plan. We're going to skip the plan. I'm mixed about it but losing the tip and appetizer makes it a little easier. No way will Nate eat $40 a day in fries, I know my DH and I could use his adult credits but there was already too much food for us just using our own credits.

I actually liked not being on the plan last month, we ate what we wanted when we wanted and didn't feel like we ever HAD to eat if we weren't hungry.

I dont thin you can do that. I asked last time and I was told no. What I would do is just get her ticket at the Disney Store and pay out of pocket for her meals.

That also means no one in the room can use the dining plan, I think that's the bigger issue.

Maybe I will use her credits, then I can book some 2 credit meals!
I really like the DDP so Iam going to book it no matter what.
Iam very bad at budgeting my $$ so it's not an option to NOT do it!
For the most part, we do 2 TS meals a day, the CS meal is the meal I can really do without. My arrival and departure day is really the only days I dont use any TS meals, more so the day we leave.

I will have to call CRO and ask if I can do this....

We have had that problem for the last 3 years. We paid for 2 adults but they eat off the kids menu. That they will do.

I always book my trip as a package thru AAA.
there is no reason I would buy our park hoppers separate (except for GT when we stayed at a DVC resort), and I couldnt use the DDP that way so that doesnt work for me.

so let me see if Iam understanding this right... you did not have the DDP for your kids??? Or you paid for your kids as Adults but they ate off the kids menu?

All this does not make sense, I wish WDW would re-vamp this, Iam not trying to cheat anyone, lord knows WDW gets plenty of my $$!! I just want to pay for what my DD will actually be eating!!!!

I wish there was something in the middle--between a child and an adult. I would gladly pay $15-$18 a day for my son at 10 years old.

Re: DDP for a 10yr old that doesnt eat alot

Issues like this make the dining plan not such a good deal sometimes. As much as you like to know your meals are paid in advance, it might not be the right choice at this time. My oldest barely ate at 10, and we did not puchase the DDP for that reason (among other things).

When my DH told me last minute that he was going last year I was able to get him a disney store ticket and pay out of pocket for his meals. Me and the kdis already had a package with Disney with meal plan.

IMO I would just book you as a package and then just get your DD ticket from Disney Store so you dont have to have her on the DDP. That way you can just pay out of pocket for her meals.
