Here we go again - Tusker or Boma?

I know I said I was not going to chicken out of Boma for our November trip but it appears that many people are comparing the new Tusker buffet to Boma. We would do Boma on an AK day. I would rather not leave the park if Tusker is close to the Boma food. Anybody know? What would you recommend? Are the busses from AK to AKL efficient?

Re: Here we go again - Tusker or Boma?

our problem with boma was mainly transportation - i think it soured my impression. we got there with no problem (on our animal kingdom day), but getting home we had to take a bus to downtown disney (or mk, if it was open that late) and then transfer buses to get back to pop. there is no direct bus from akl to pop, and AK was already closed when we left boma.

it was a headache. the food was good though!

Re: Here we go again - Tusker or Boma?

Thanks for asking this, I was thinking the same thing. I am anxious to try both places, but was worried about the transportation from AKL back to POP.

I have heard really good reviews about Boma and really want to try it next trip.
Any reviews on Tusker House?

For us, Boma was such a wonderful meal that we'd make it a real priority!

That would happen from any resort to any resort. They don't connect. But if you don't want to travel around by bus, there's always a taxi to be had.

I would choose Boma. Looking at the menu for Tusker House, it looks like mostly American fare. Boma is different. Special, if you like interesting flavors.

Look at traveling by bus as part of the experience. Things look different at night. I have never minded the bus rides. And have only resorted to using a cab, when time was short.

i guess it seemed more of a hassle with AKL because the resort closes (AK) was already closed, so we had to go farther out of the way to get a new bus. we didn't mind so much the other resorts because they were near MK, and we got back there before it closed.

i agree though, boma was great and i'd do it again, bus or not.

Re: Here we go again - Tusker or Boma?

Iv never tried Tusker but I love Boma! There is such a great selection of food, you really have to dive right in and just try a little bit of everything, and dont forget to pick up a few Zebra Domes Yummmmm!

My advice would probably be to take a taxi from AKL to your resort to save the headaches! There are usually some outside the hotel but just ask at the conceirge and they will ring you one

Re: Here we go again - Tusker or Boma?

Here is my problem, there is no way my dad or DH will pay for a taxi with busses running. DS will be 22 months at the time and I'm not sure I want to deal with all the extra busses with the stroller, etc in tow.

Re: Here we go again - Tusker or Boma?

Most people haven't tried Tusker House since they've reopened as a buffet. I know I haven't.
But your real decision here is: park restaurant or hotel restaurant.
You can always get back to your hotel from any park. Hotel to hotel transit is difficult. Non stop hotel to hotel is almost impossible. Plus, AKL doesn't share their bus with anyone, so your easiest transfer point is AK, but if it closes before you've dined, that's no option. Sadly, there are some times when it pays to have your car with you.

We will have our car with us so maybe we will just do Boma on a non-AK day and drive over there. Decisions, Decisions, but at least I have awhile to decide.

With a small baby - I'd drive the car everywhere except to the MK.

Haven't been to the Tusker House Buffet - but Boma is such a nice experience. And the food selection huge.

My bf was just at Tusker and really enjoyed it. I definitely think that it is worth a try.

My vote is Boma. The food is excellent, and then you get the extra bonus of being able to explore the resort and seeing the animals at night.

Re: Here we go again - Tusker or Boma?

I usually drive to AK. It just seems to make more sense for some reason, unless we're staying at AKL. Plus, if you drive to AK, you're already next door to Boma anyway. I'd even think about closing the park and then going for dinner at Boma. Then I'd probably go to Epcot or MK for fireworks.
