Any suggestions for a Birthday celebration?

We will be celebrating my sons birthday this year while at WDW.
If you have any celebration experiences please share.
We need a place to dine & any suggestions for something special to do.
He will be turning 18.

Thanks for the help!

We've already dined at:

Liberty Square (dinner)
Crystal Palace
Capn Jacks
CRT (lunch)
Mama Melrose
Nine Dragons
Mexico
Akershus Princess Dinner
Chefs De France
Le Cellier
Fifties Prime Time
Sci Fi
Tony's
Spoodles
Coral Reef - We've done BDays 2x's there. Both times they forgot to defrost the cake!

Re: Any suggestions for a Birthday celebration?

DH always manages to have a birthday whilst we are at 'The World' and we usually start the day with a breakfast at 1900 Park fayre (where the servers sing Happy birthday and he gets a cup cake with candle and a birthday place mat) then we like to head off to MK and get a birthday button and lots of special things just happen like the Main Street barbershop singers serenaded him with 'Happy Birthday' and we had loads of people wishing him a great day- he also had free desserts in a couple of places and it made the day special.
I am sure where ever you choose will be magical.

Re: Any suggestions for a Birthday celebration?

We like to celebrate birthdays at Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Hotel. They, too, will bring out a cupcake with a candle and give complimentary birthday placemats. Also tell the resort where you will be staying that you will be celebrating a birthday and sometime during your stay they will leave a balloon bouquet with a birthday card in your room.

Don't forget to get his Free Happy Birthday Pin at City Hall in MK. Many of the CM's will acknowledge his birthday. My DS has also received a signed card and balloon in our room.

How about a birthday fireworks cruise? Has anyone done that? If so, please share details.

Re: Any suggestions for a Birthday celebration?

18 is a big deal....entry into adulthood. I would skip the character meals and go for something a bit more adult. Does he like ESPN or Planet Hollywood? Even Rainforest Cafe (AK one) would be perfect for a birthday celebration. O'hanna does a nice job too..I had DD's birthday there one year and they really made it special.

Re: Any suggestions for a Birthday celebration?

My DS had #5 @ Disney. Big difference but I can tell you letting everyone know really makes the difference. When you make ADR anywhere/any day let them know you are celebrating a b-day while there. They will add it into notes & at the least they will be wishing him HB everywhere you go. At Disney adults will be kids too, so if he likes the charecters... my DS got a card from charecters at his breakfast bday meal. I would make the entire stay about him. That will make him feel more adult to have a say in what goes on. Where to eat, what places to go & when, of course you may have to keep him in check.
Rides in the front of the monorail are cool for any age, massages but they can be expensive, fishing excursions-they all can be great things to add on.
How many of you will be there? Enough to be a Grand Gathering? That can make it even more special. They have LOTS for GG like special seating & fireworks viewing.

Re: Any suggestions for a Birthday celebration?

There will be 4 of us for half of our stay & 5 for the other half so we won't make the count for GG. We have eaten at Planet Hollywood too. He thought it was "ok". Never been to ESPN, I don't think that is his "thing".
Never been to Ohanna's either. What is it like?

I heard Tony's is a nice place to celebrate. Anyone ever celebrated there?

He is a big movie buff. (He's going to go to college for film to be a director) His absolute favorite ride is the Great Movie Ride. HE LOVES it. Too bad they didn't have anything special with that.

This is a BIG deal for us. He's not a little kid anymore, he's turning into an adult

He's been to character meals with us. Embarrassed by the Princesses
He even put up with Eeyore hugging him last year

I will put on our ressie that it is his BDay. I don't know if he'll agree to wear the birthday pin. He's the type who doesn't like to announce it but I know he secretly enjoys the attention by the smile on his face.

We're going in the early fall so I am trying to get this figured out so I can book something. Thanks for the ideas...keep them coming please!

Re: Any suggestions for a Birthday celebration?

Early fall...MNSSHP! A must no matter what the reason for going is! Less people & Candy! You can't go wrong! 18 or not who doesn't like candy. Ohanas is great! We went this last visit and LOVED it! I would let them know on the GMR, maybe you can get front row seats! He'll love that! I would absolutely plan to be at DHS the day of his bday then. What about the Sci-Fi dine-in theater for a meal.
Walt Disney World Resort - Detecting Browser Properties . . .
I have to admit though I have never been to Tony's for a celeration.
Oh and you can always check out Disney Florists and see if there is something they have you might like to have waiting for him in the room.

I hope this is helpful!

Re: Any suggestions for a Birthday celebration?

O'hanna is perfect...meat on skewers!! IT's very Hawaiian themed....hula contests and other fun stuff. The thing I remember most about DD's birthday there was the man who sang to her..they really made a fuss and it's was awesome. She got a birthday cupcake and the royal treatment.

Re: Any suggestions for a Birthday celebration?

Hmmmm, for some strange reason Ohana seems to be sticking in my head

I'll have to check it out and see what my DH thinks.

Thanks again! Any other suggestions will be welcomed too.
