Re: San Angel Restaurant @ Mexico - What was your experience?

It seems like the consensus is 50/50 right now.I for one am planning on going back this Sept. We last dined there in Nov. 2006 and it was good. We were on the dining plan, and the service wasn't great, but not horrible either. I remember the food being good, though. I would give it another try.

Re: San Angel Restaurant @ Mexico - What was your experience?

I dine here frequently, maybe a little less than once a month. I love, love, love the atmosphere. I prefer to go before 3pm to eat from the lunch menu as the items are similar and cost alot less. In the past six months or so it does seem as if the service has gone downhill a bit but I have never had a horrible experience which would prevent me from going back. I try to be patient remembering that the servers have all likely been in the states only a short time and that english is not their first language.

Re: San Angel Restaurant @ Mexico - What was your experience?

My DH and I were there about 6 months ago. We thought everything was fine. We asked to be seated by the water and was willing to wait. We did wait about 15-20 min. While waiting the server/host ??? keep checking on us saying just a few more mins. My only drawback is the tables are rather close. We plan to return next month. We were on the DDP at the time, next time we will be using DDE.

Re: San Angel Restaurant @ Mexico - What was your experience?

The food was only OK. We had booked the place because we wanted to experience the atmosphere and theming. But the thing is -- you can be right in the restaurant by shopping at the gift shop (SAME ROOM!) and you can enjoy the boats by gettign right on one... no need to book a meal there to go in.

We like the Cantina much, much better!

Re: San Angel Restaurant @ Mexico - What was your experience?

We dined there last December, and had a fantastic time. The food was hot and the portions were good. We will be going back again this year for sure.

I will never eat here again. We ate there in November and it was bad. Could not see the menus cause it was so dark. Service was horrible and so was the food. The only place in Disney that I can say I will never eat there again.

We have never had a problem with the food- however, the darkness is a problem but then we struggle in Sci Fi Diner too so maybe its just our old eyes!

We've eaten there once. We thought it was pretty good, but we didn't think it was worth the prices. Just our opinions!

We used the DDP when we were there. I am wondering if the 18% tip that the wait staff automatically received made our service poor as the waiter had no need to try and get our food out hot or attend to us regulary since the tip was a given.

I am also wondering that since the tip will not be included anymore in the DDP if that would make a difference?

Any opinions?
My sister and I were NOT using DDP and had horrible service/food. I don't know about the people next to us because they walked out after they got drinks and didn't leave anything.

I wondered the same thing at HDDR.. yes we were using the free dining plan our service at mexico was very good. our service at HDDR was the worst i have ever had in disney so iM not sure why since we were on the dining plan for both. we had wonderfull service at Narcooses and every where else we ate.

Love the atmosphere, food was ok. Tables are so close that you feel cramped. A bit overpriced.

Re: San Angel Restaurant @ Mexico - What was your experience?

We had great table service at most of the restaurants while we we on the DDP. Mexico seemed to be our only problem with the lukewarm food and so-so waiter.

So maybe we will give it another try this year and if is the same we won't go back again.

Re: San Angel Restaurant @ Mexico - What was your experience?

We had lunch at San Angel for the first time last summer. It was good, not great and not awful either. I'm not in a hurry to go back but if someone siad let's go I would be right there. The service was typical of what we've seen at local mexican restaurants; short and to the point.

Re: San Angel Restaurant @ Mexico - What was your experience?

The good and bad about the San Angel. I have eaten here a few times. Some times the food is great, others, not so great. Same thing with the service. Good and bad.

Why I like to go there every once in awhile is simple. The atmosphere. I use it for lunch, not dinner, so it's just a carry over meal before we get to one the very good restaurants, like LeCellier or Bistro De Paris. If it is a hot day, I seem to cool off quicker there. The scene of the Aztec pyramid with the water and mist, plus the lack of light, just refreshes me. If you have a 30 minute wait ahead of you, ride the Gran Fiesta tour. It's never crowded and gives you some extra magic while waiting. There is a kid fun zone inside there as well which is good while waiting. Will I ever use a dinner ADR here? No. But, for that "down time" at Epcot during midday, this is a good place.

Re: San Angel Restaurant @ Mexico - What was your experience?

We enjoy it. However, it is very dark, and awkward to move around sometimes. The food was very good, of course our local restaurants have give more attention to the ingredients. I myself like food more luke then overly hot, I don't remember the serving temperature, but we will go back.
