San Angel Restaurant @ Mexico - What was your experience?

We dined at the Mexico pavilion last year and were considering going back again this year. The issue though is that when we were served our food it was very luke warm. It tasted good, but luke warm. When we got the waiters attention & told him he first took a very large tables order (about 10 minutes) before returning over to us to take our food back. The new food was warmer but still not hot.

So I am wondering if it was the waiter's fault for leaving it sit in the kitchen or if this is the norm for this restaurant? Should we avoid going back?

If you have dined here, plmk was your food hot?

We've dined there twice, and both times the food was hot and fantastic. Give them a second chance. I'm assuming waiter was either new or having a bad day.

I have to say that this is the one place that I will never return to. We had to use our cell phones to read the menu because it was so dark and the food was just average, not as good as our local mexican restaurant.

I agree - this is one restaurant that has really gone downhill, food and service-wise. We use to dine there almost every year - the last two times we went the service was terrible and the food wasn't much better. I had tenderloin tips and they tasted like they had freezer-burn. They were awful. I can't remember what my dh had, but he didn't enjoy it either. The service was very slow.

It's too bad - the atmosphere is beautiful.

I also agree that this is one place that I will never return. Luke warm food. My sister asked for no cheese on her chicken meal. When she got it, it was swimming in oily cheese. We never got refills. The table next to us asked to speak with a manager, none showed up. They walked out. I know some people have had good experiences but I've never seen it.

We ate there about 3 years ago. It was great then, but I have heard poor reviews since. I still think it is really neat to go inside, even if you don't plan to eat there. That way you can ride the boat ride and see the neat merchandise for sale.

Re: San Angel Restaurant @ Mexico - What was your experience?

For those of you who have dined there and had a nice hot meal with good service - were you using the DDP?

For those of you who had the same experience as me, cold meal, poor service - were you using the DDP?

We used the DDP when we were there. I am wondering if the 18% tip that the wait staff automatically received made our service poor as the waiter had no need to try and get our food out hot or attend to us regulary since the tip was a given.

I am also wondering that since the tip will not be included anymore in the DDP if that would make a difference?

Any opinions?

We were using the dining plan, but I have never had bad service anywhere else when using the dining plan, and we have dined everywhere from California Grill to Whispering Canyon to Biergarten.

Re: San Angel Restaurant @ Mexico - What was your experience?

We went there a couple of years ago, and we found that it was alright. If I went back it would be because of the atmosphere (Mexico is my favourite pavilion)

I LOVE this place! That being said, we haven't been there in a few years. I'd give it another shot. If it still doesn't live up to your expectations, then skip it for a while.

We've been there a couple of times and both times we thought the food was just ok and not like the "Tex Mex" style that we are used to at the local Mexican restaraunts. It was hard to see the menus and we had to use the lights on our phones too. The atmosphere was nice though especially if you can sit by the water and watch the boats go by. It can either be romantic or entertain the kids.
