HOW are you going to tip?

Since tipping is not included on the dining plan this year, how are you tipping?

Cash, credit card, or charge it on your room key?

Re: HOW are you going to tip?

I think we may just bring cash. It just feels like less $$ that way. It would be terrible to get home to your credit card bill and having to pay it all off at once.
(Now that the entire world knows I am going to WDW with cash, please don't try to stalk or mug me! )

Re: HOW are you going to tip?

I can't imagine not tipping with cash, it just seems so much easier. We already kinda estimated how much cash we're gonna need for tipping so that should make it faster.

Re: HOW are you going to tip?

That's what I was thinking - cash would be easier.

(We don't take alot of cash. I use my disney visa card, but don't spend more than what I have to pay for it when I get home.)

Re: HOW are you going to tip?

I figure we will be getting some extras at each TS meal (like wine or beer), so since I will be putting that on a room key, then I would probably just put the tip on there too. I sort of like the idea of having everything on my bill at the end of the trip so I can see exactly what I spent. I'm sure I will use cash once in a while too, and I'll be paying cash when I check out to settle my bill anyway.

I would say this is what 90% of my guests do. Alot of people do not purchase other items and want to leave a tip on their credit card (usually a Disney Visa) however. When this happens we have to run a $.01 charge on the card so that they have something to tip on.

This is interesting. If you put it on your room key, does the .01 charge also apply? Not that a penny would break me, but just curious.

Re: HOW are you going to tip?

I think I will tip in cash. I like the idea that the server doesn't have to deal with credit card fees and such. I heard that some credit card companies will take up to 5% of whatever is charged leaving the server with a slighter tip.

I will also be making sure that the tip has not been automatically added in. I read that some MB'ers were having issues with being charged the 18% gratuity, but ended up tipping again because they weren't told. I think that was on the dining discount card.

Although, I think that would be highly unlikely and quite noticeable with FD!

Re: HOW are you going to tip?

I am also going to use cash. I was looking at our ADR and trying to figure 20% for tipping. I figure I will spend about $200 on tips for the 4 of us.
I really miss the old DDP plan!

It will be room key for us as well. We also prefer having all spending on on bill and a big point with us is to hit the parks with as little as possible to carry or manage. $25 or 50 in the pocket just in case, all else on the room key.

We give the boys charge privileges (have from 14 yrs old) so they don't have to carry cash if they want to buy something. They know their budget and knowing that we can and do check the charges, they've always been careful with their spending choices. DH's not a banker you want to be in debt to...

I'll be using my Disney Rewards Card for tips and drinks that aren't included - and then cash when that runs out!

Re: HOW are you going to tip?

I think we will be using our room key. I hate to carry cash in the parks. I usually carry my room key and a credit card for just in case.
