Mickey's Backyard BBQ - question

We are booked for the Hoop De Doo Review for our upcoming trip. We love this show, and have been to it almost every trip. We were going to skip it this time, but since we are doing the DDP, we decided to go for it again....

Should we consider doing the Mickey's Backyard BBQ for a change.

Which do you like better?

Tell me a little about the BBQ experience if you can.

Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Mickey's Backyard BBQ - question

How old are your kids? I have never been to the BBQ but I do know that it is outside under a pavillion so it may be hot, cold, damp, or buggy. That was enough to turn me off. There are characters that dance with the kids (hokey pokey, for example) and I understand that there is a guy that does rope twirling that is good. The food , I think , is basically the same as HDDR. I believe you sit at long picnic type tables. I have considered it myself when my kids were younger but we really love HDDR and I didn't want to sit and eat outside.

Re: Mickey's Backyard BBQ - question

Thanks for the info. My DS is 4yrs old. I think we may try this when he is a bit older. I think he is still a little too shy to get out there and dance. I didn't realize it was guest participation...so thanks again for letting me know.

HDDR it IS!!!!

Re: Mickey's Backyard BBQ - question

We've done this and had a really good time. It is outside in a covered pavillion so depending on the time of year it can be hot. The food was very good: hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken, macaroni, salad, cornbread, baked beans, watermelon, sheet cake, lemonade, beer, wine. The characters come out dressed in western wear (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale) and sign autographs and dance with the children. We celebrated my daughter's 5th birthday there. The entertainment was good.

I was acutally booked to do this many years ago and cancelled. I kinda wish I didn't now because I only hear really positive feedback about this meal. My DD who is now 14 has ZERO interest in it..lol

Re: Mickey's Backyard BBQ - question

We went to the BBQ in 2003 and had a good time but it ws too hot (July) to truly enjoy it. Since then we've been doing the Hoop Dee Doo so the weather isn't a factor.

Re: Mickey's Backyard BBQ - question

We went in Aug. of 2005. It was sooooo hot and humid. The food was ok, the show was cute and the kids really enjoyed it. I think we're shooting for Hoop Dee Doo this year.

Re: Mickey's Backyard BBQ - question

We've done both and hands-down we like Hoop de Doo better. I guess the BBQ is good to "try" at least once, but the food is def better at HDD.

My lack of excitement could be that DD was 4 when we went and she was VERY excited to get up and dance with the characters with all the other kids. The problem was, it was pretty chaotic and it was hard to keep track of her. They kept going in circles and doing parades. Being outside and the fact that she was only 4, it was pretty nervewracking when we would "lose" her for a few minutes. That and she wouldn't ever sit down to eat!

We took her to HDD when she was 3 and 7 and well all loved it each time!
