Question about exceptionally small eaters!!!

My question is this. What does Disney offer for diners who only consume an exceptionally small quantity of food. I'm talking about those who have had gastric bypass and cannot eat more than a couple of ounces at a sitting, but must eat more frequently. There are more people having this done, and I have thought about it myself (lapband, not a full bypass). If I can't eat more than a few bites, why do I have to pay 40 per day on the dining plan or 45 per sit down meal without the plan, if there is absolutely no way that I am going to eat that much. Can someone help me out with this? It may be a real problem later on.

Re: Question about exceptionally small eaters!!!

Just like with diabetics who carry a card or medic alert, gastric bypass patients get a card that states they can only eat a small amount and should be considered to get child's portions.

Re: Question about exceptionally small eaters!!!

I would think that you would be ahead to skip the dining plan if you aren't going to be eating much, it's A LOT of food.

You can get a letter from your doctor after surgery that states you can't eat much and that may help you. I don't know that they HAVE to honor it but I am sure most restaurants would be happy to help. At counter service restaurants you can always order a kids meal.

If you and your daughter both eat very little then sharing a meal is another good option.

Re: Question about exceptionally small eaters!!!

This is something that I was concerned about. I want to do this so that I will lose weight and therefore be able to enjoy my trips to disney more. It was really making me wonder how it would work.

I had lap band surgery in February I can only eat 4 to 5 ounces of food at one time. I am not doing the dinning plan for that reason. Really most of your food needs to be protein so I have researched the menus and plan on just ordering appetizers or sharing with my husband. We are going to a buffet in Germany I called Disney Dinning to ask the question about lap band and no one could answer my question. I also have a card from my doctor explaining my situation. My family loves the food in Germany so I am just going to suck it up and pay full price. When I made my adr I tried to stay away from the all you can eat. I will let you know how I make out after my July trip. and if you want to talk about the surgery please pm me.

Re: Question about exceptionally small eaters!!!

Interesting question you raise! I feel similar with respect to paying for my son as an adult next year on the DDP- he eats two chicken nuggets and some grapes for dinner- definately not worth $39 a day!

Re: Question about exceptionally small eaters!!!

Have you tried calling Disney directly? I can't imagine that there would not be some reasonable outcome to this situation. My mom has approached CMs on several occasions about how little she would be eating (this would be pertaining to buffets) and they have graciously offered to charge her the child's price or just charged her for exactly what she ate.

That's the same reason we're done with the dining plan. I'm not paying $40 a day for my son to eat fries. After a couple of long trips on the dining plan it was really nice to eat what we wanted when we wanted it. There was no pressure to eat and when we did eat we didn't have so much food we felt we had to eat. It was very freeing.

I agree- although we're bouncing back for free dining, for all of our other trips I got the DDE (and will be enjoying it in 14 hours!!).

For small eaters the DDP just isn't worth it.

Re: Question about exceptionally small eaters!!!

I can't believe you're so close to your trip! Have a wonderful trip.

We had the DDE card again this year and it saved us a lot with 8 people in our group.
