changes are official

Here is the official announcement from Disney on changes to the dining reservation system:

The Walt Disney World® Resort will release a new reservation booking system for dining, recreation and tour reservations in late October 2008. The new reservation system will replace our current Dining Reservation System and will allow you to book multiple dining reservations for your Clients in one experience, while associating reservations to your Clients’ Walt Disney World Resort room reservations.

In the future, Travel Agents and Guests will be able to make dining reservations online at disneytravelagents.com and disneyworld.com with this new reservation booking system. The launch date for this enhancement will be announced at a later date.

As a result of the system upgrade, effective July 29 through late October 2008, Guests will be able to book dining reservations up to Jan. 25, 2009 arrivals. In late October, booking processes will return to normal, allowing Guests to book up to 180 days of arrival.

The system upgrade will not impact Victoria and Albert’s Restaurant, Cinderella’s Royal Table, and Chef Mickey’s Restaurant. Those three venues will continue to observe the normal booking processes throughout the system cutover.

There you have it, as expected, you will soon be able to make all your Disney vacation reservations online in one motion, making the overall experience much easier. Expect the new system to be in order around January 2009.

I called today, and the whole system was voice activated . . . and so much faster to get through . . . to change a reservation was automated too, at the end I was given a choice to speak to a cast member. Interesting . ..

This is really interesting, but so convenient. Now you can obsess over your ADR's in the middle of the night and actually work them online! That is so awesome for an overplanner like me!

Hmmm? I hope its not like those voice activated services like directory assistance. Like when I ask for the phone # for Chin's Chinese and they say "you said FARFIGNUGIN is that correct"?

Anyway, I mean I hope somebody doesn't accidentally say (or its hears) the wrong# and cancels "MY ADR"

Oh that would be terrible . . . and it was kinda like that but she sounded more DISNEY! It repeated back to what I was canceling . . . yes to confirm, no to not! That's when it sound creepy robot like . . . I wonder if they were just testing it?

Didn't think of that. I hope they have some way to double check that a call from 555- 123-4567 is cancelling ADR 12345677. I could see someone saying 12345679 (sloppy written 7) and someone else's ADR is gone.

For those who have tried the new system, what info did they ask before getting to the ADR part?

It totally bugs me when I get one of those automated voice services that try to sound like a real person saying things like "Um, I didn't quite catch that" or "Okay, let's get started" or "I seem to be be having difficulty understanding what you need, I'll transfer you to a representative".

I would sure not want it to be something like that, but it seems to be more common than not

My only concern with online ADR's is over exerting the system. How many people can be booking online at one time? Can we overload the system? have thought that would be awesome for some time know but hopefully the kinks can be worked out without too many headaches. I'd be too afraid to use the automated system but it will also cut call volumes down I bet!

Exactly my thoughts! I really think this takes the personal magical touch out of what I always expect from Disney.

I think I would like the online scheduling/ordering because you can always print a confirmation for your records, but if I were to call, I would want to speak to a "LIVE" person not a recording. Just my opinion.
