Menu restrictions on the Disney Dining Plan

I have heard that some of the restaurants limit their menu for those on the Disney Dining Plan. Does anyone know if the Hollywood Brown Derby does this? I have been perusing the menus on allears and wondered if the menu items would be the same when we go for Free Dining in September.

Re: Menu restrictions on the Disney Dining Plan

I've never been to Brown Derby but in my experience I haven't had anywhere limit their menu for the DDP. But then again, I haven't been to any two-credit places in awhile.

From what I have read all over the place, they don't exclude items (other than appetizers) they tweak the entire menu and people do not like it. It seems that they have streamlined all of the menus so that it almost doesn't matter where you eat they all serve pretty much the same stuff.
I am not sure that that's really the case. Especially not with the Signature restaurants.

Re: Menu restrictions on the Disney Dining Plan

I didn't see any restrictions two weeks ago on any of the menus and the CS didn't mention any restrictions. We ordered what we wanted and sometimes it was the most expensive item on the menu. We also did not eat at any signature restruants.

Re: Menu restrictions on the Disney Dining Plan

The only restrictions I've ever come across are at Wolfgang Puck Cafe and California Grill. Both involve sushi as appetizer. WPCafe will not allow you to have any sushi as an appetizer and Cali Grill draws the line at some of the over the top hand rolls as an appetizer as these are more full entree items themselves in the case of Cali Grill. At WPCafe, if you are really nice, the might bend the rules and give you some sashimi as your appetizer.
Other than that, we've never had any problem with restrictions in other restaurants.
I can't see any issues at Brown Derby.
I take that back. Brown Derby has a specific menu for the Fantasmic Dining package. You must order from that menu, not the general restaurant menu, this could be the issue you are describing.

Re: Menu restrictions on the Disney Dining Plan

How would you know there are restrictions for dining plan users? does it say on the menu- sorry if this is obvious but this is our first time on DDP and we are finding it confusing to say the least.

Re: Menu restrictions on the Disney Dining Plan

My experience has been your waiter/ess (I hate server. Server is what I have on my home computer network, not the person who waits on me at a restaurant.) will inform you right up front of any menu changes or possible restrictions when they first come to the table and ask if you're on the dining plan.
As I've already said, with very few exception, you should have no worries about being told you can't have something. The dining plan is not all that confusing, as long as you stay within the lines. That is, look at the list and be sure your restaurant is on the plan to start with; at sit downs, you get entree, dessert, and beverage but you are responsible for the tip; at counters, you get a platter, dessert, and beverage. The snacks can be a little confusing, but any beverage and most single serve items under $4 are fair game, be that ice cream, candy, and other "garbage".

Re: Menu restrictions on the Disney Dining Plan

Hmm, I haven't heard of such a thing. We ate at the Brown Derby for lunch several years ago and used a table credit for it. I don't remember there being any menu restrictions. Although, they have revised the DDP this year so who knows. I wousn't be completely surprised.

Thank you Doug- can I just ask, at counter service or snack carts would we tell the cashier/CM we are on the plan before we place the orders?

Re: Menu restrictions on the Disney Dining Plan

Dixie, they pretty much automatically ask if you're on the plan. If you have concerns, simply mention this is your first time on the plan when ordering at CS locations. As for snack carts, just ask if something is a snack before you actually order. You can safely assume that all bottled beverages, i.e. water/soda/soft drinks are snacks. In the MK confectionary, again, ask. In a lot of places, there are actual notations if something is a dining plan snack right on it's display.
But as always, the best way is to ask first, then order.

Karen,

This thread....

http://www.mousebuzz.com/forum/wdw-r...k-options.html

....is comprised of many of the confirmed snack options for 2008, but like Doug said, most items under $4 are considered snacks.

I am bringing this list with me in September, but I will always ask the CM's to verify for me as well.

Re: Menu restrictions on the Disney Dining Plan

Ok, I have to say, when we went in Sept 06" and May of 07' we thought the DDP was the best thing since sliced bread, but the fact that they keep making all of these changes, at their patrons expense, drives me nuts! I hope this is not the case, I recommend the DDP to everyone!

Re: Menu restrictions on the Disney Dining Plan

I know when we did the DDP, a lot of food was wasted. Who can eat an appetizer, entree & a dessert? I find it hard just to eat an entree & a dessert. I thought all WDW restaurants were on the DDP. Am I wrong? How do you find out which ones on it?

Appetizers & tips are no longer included. The higher the bill, the higher the tip you have to pay.
