Icon5 Dining Plan - what happens if you use up your points before departure/meals

hi all,
Just wondering what happens if one runs out of Points from their dining plan? What is the charge for the remaining meals that would require points? Just curious - because I am figuring out my points (some require 2 points and some require 1 point). Do I have to cancel some ressies if it does put me over my limit, or can I just pay for that meal?

thanks so much,
margaret

From what I understand if you use all your dining credits you pay for the meals.

Once you use up your credits you just pay out of pocket for the meals.

You can also choose to pay for some cheaper meals when you still have points - just dont tell them to use your DDP. In the middle of our stay we are going to Sci-Fi Diner for lunch. Rather than spend one tix on this meal we are using it later in the week when we go to dinner at a more expensive restaurant.

As it is we have the luau (2 tix) and Flying Fish (2 tix) so we have to pay OOP for 2 meals.

You don't have to cancel your reservations; just pay out of pocket when your credits run out. You could also pay for things that use 2 credits out of pocket instead of using the credits. We paid for CRT & Spirit of Aloha out of pocket. You could also cancel some reservations if you don't want to pay out of pocket for the table service and then just grab some cheaper quick service meals for those table service meals you cancelled.

We too utilized this strategy and are paying OOP for Artist Point (Most expensive Plus we want to have wine and apps so we figured we would pay for that) and Breakfast at Kona (b/c its cheapest of our ADRs so we did not want to waist a DP meal on it!)

You pay the same price any common Joe off the street would pay if they didn't have the DDP. Use your points wisely and you won't run out of them. Have you planned your meals out?? You don't have to cancel an ADR if you run out of points...you just pay "out of pocket" for the meal or FULL price. If you have a few signature places that require 2 points and have breakfasts planned, pay for the breakfasts out of pocket. They are the cheapest. What are your ADRs? I can explain myself better if I knnow what you are talking about.

It's called "Pay OOP". Out of pocket.
When you use all your dining credits before the end of your vacation, you simply pay the bill, no advanced math, no secret add a credit programs.
The rule of thumb is one sit down meal a day. If you eat at a 2 credit place one night, you're going to have to skip a sit down meal another night altogether or pay for it out of pocket. It's just that easy. You can pay for all the meals you want, nobody's going to stop you. You can even pay for one person's meal out of pocket at a 2 credit restaurant and use 2 credits from the dining plan for the other (assuming 2 adults and no kids).

Re: Dining Plan - what happens if you use up your points before departure/meals

We ALWAYS go over our allotted meals on our trips so what I do is write down prices for each meal and say I went over by 3 TS meals. Well, I pick the 3 cheapest TS meals (usually the breakfast's) and pay OOP for them!!!!

What you do when you are seated is tell your server that you are paying OOP for your meal. Tell them before you get your food or order. Dining Plan has different restrictions on what is included on non-buffet or family style meals.
On the same token, if you are using your Dining Plan then go ahead and tell them too but for the most part they will ask you when you check in at the podium or when you are seated.

This is definitely a good plan when using the dining plan to maximize what you get from it.

Re: Dining Plan - what happens if you use up your points before departure/meals

We try to pay op for the cheapest meals. This time around I think we are going to pay op for HDR since its 2 credits or use are disney reward points.

You have to pay out of pocket. The last 2 years we went and had points left and filled our bags with snacks for the ride home 18 Hours..lol

Re: Dining Plan - what happens if you use up your points before departure/meals

We usually sit down for breakfast and dinner. When we're on the standard dining plan, we pay breakfast out of pocket as well. If we didn't we'd be out of table credits with half our vacation left!

Re: Dining Plan - what happens if you use up your points before departure/meals

We had points left too. I think I was too cautious through out the week, and even though we didn't do the deluxe plan, we had more than enough food for the three of us. We went to Downtown Disney on the way home, ate there, and then used the rest of our points on snacks for the trip home.
I won't go to The World without this plan!
