All days of our tics had been used PRIOR to checking into our dis hotel.
I know exactly what I bought, which btw has been paid for on my credit card months ago, and that is everything I have listed so far. So please don't feel so supremely confident about this as apparently you're not aware of every code out there. Obiously there are other areas that qualify for these codes since things change all the time.

edit to add that this was a package....room, ddp, coupons for boats-golf-arcade-dinner, but Without any extra tics bought to book. I believe it may be a special for military.

Did you book it all at once or book the room, then later add the DDP? I haven't tried to call about my one day DDP (cause I don't want to pay till we are much closer). But again if it doesn't work out for me, no biggie.

I booked the room end of July and added 1 day of ddp end of Aug.

They backed 1 code out while sliding a new one in all in the same conversation so not to lose our reservation completely, crediting our acct for original amt charged then adding new amt of room/ddp only (no tics involved) in all within a matter of minutes. Whole process very quick and painless.
We're not big fans of ddp because of schduling restraints, so we went with the QS that way the girls could get their mugs and eat whenever they got hungry. Also helped that they gave us coupons for free golf, boating and arcade....things we were going to do anyway since we couldn't go back in the parks:).

Re: Disney Dining Plan

babets, if you are able to book the dining plan I think it's fantastic! We do it on every trip now! We just go with the basic plan and find it to be perfect; you get one counter service & one sit down meal per day, plus a snack (bottle of water/soda, small treat, etc).

I think it's WELL worth it & I still don't get how people say it's too much food. If you use the counter service for breakfast and don't eat a sit down dinner until 7pm how much less could you possibly eat? I don't get that part.

Then it seems there is a special military promotion or code.

I remain supremely confident that someone can't just walk off the street and add the DDP a la carte (that id, without a ticket purchase as part of a package) by saying "Pretty please." There is a code for everything. And there, evidently, is a military-only code or promotion. This would make sense, as they have a promotion for a military-only free ticket ... it would be dumb, as well as very bad public relations, for Disney to give military members a free ticket but then turn around and make them buy a ticket in order to get the DDP, know what I mean?

But like I said, I remain supremely confident that Disney has their own rules that they stick to. I am convinced your experience was due to a military -only promotion, and is not something that a non-military family could get just for the asking.

I'm glad you had a great trip, and I thank your family very much for your military member's service and for your family's support of that person's service, and all the sacrifices that entails.

What do you mean the menu is limited? You don't get an appetizer, but there is a lot of food with out that. other than that, there are no restrictions.

babets,
You can add the dining plan up to 5 days before your scheduled arrival date

With the deluxe plan you get 3 sit down meals per day plus 2 snacks per person and the meals include appetizers. Same menu as all the others.

I am an eater, let me tell ya, but that was tooooooo much even for me. We lumped most of our points into signature meals, that made it a bit more doable. But with all the extra stuff one eats in the parks, ice cream, frozen drinks, churros, etc. you are stuffed before you ever get to your dinner spot.

Is this new? We've turned a room only reservation into a package by simply adding a package code to the current reservation. There was no refund to my credit card or a new charge.

I've had to do it this way numerous times, and others have reported the same. I've asked to NOT do it that way, but it's never worked. It has been explained to me that room-only and package are two completely different systems within their computer system.

I hope your right. I aim to try this with an AP, but if it doesn't work. Well, no biggie, except missing out on about a zillion calories.

Wish, I totally agree with you. I can not understand where people think it is too much food.

And Jo-jo, as far as cancellation policies go, I would call Disney directly and ask. I know that it is different with a room only, as opposed to a package, but I don't want to give you misinformation.

We were able to add the dining plan to our trip in March, I just had to pay the amount right then, on the phone, since we were less than 45 days out.
