Eating healthy at WDW????

Yes, I know it's vacation and I know that we will do a lot of walking, etc. etc., but I'm sort of a health nut and eating certain types of food or too much makes me feel sick , and I don't want to feel sick on vacation!! So my question is are there any restaurants in WDW that have a more healthy selection? Grilled chicken, broiled fish, etc.? Or healthy snacks? It would be great if anyone can give us some ideas, before it's time to make our PSs.

Thanks!

This may help. I can't eat too much fried foods either.

I saw on the www.wdwig.com site that she lists sections for dietary issues, so you can take a peek there under the Vegetarian or Kosher foods which can sometimes be healthier.

In all the parks, the ice cream stands have frozen fruit bars.

In AK, there are lots of fruit stands plus they have frozen chocolate covered bananas.

At MGM, You can get a Turkey drumstick at one of the counter service places by the TOT.

At the MK, even though it is not listed on the menus all the time, you can get the main dish without the fries. Also, in Adventureland, there is a Dole stand and Citrus World stand near the Tiki Room that has fruit and frozen yogurt type things.

At EPCOT, there are so many different restaurants that I haven't had a problem.

We are planning to bring in our own fruit for our next trip too so we can just snack on the run.

Hope this helps!

I remember just about every place, including counter service has healthy options on the menu's.
I am not a healthy eater :( I want to eat because I like food, I have had the hardest of times adjusting to a diabetic diet. but I am not worried about it at WDW because I know there are lots of options :)

I have had to really modify my diet because of kidney stones. But my sister in law, she has had a hard time with diet most of her life, being a diabetic. But after 40 years, she is cured and now can eat anything she wants. (although she doesn't).

I am a health nut also! and i have found great food at disney.
the japense steak house in Japan has great grilled chicken with a wonderful salad. i dont eat red meat and have found places that have great meals for us healthy eaters.
There are fruit stands in all of the parks to get carrots and oranges, bannanas (sp?) apples, pears, strawberries. Those are the best.
I cant have fried foods i get very sick also the only thing i treat myself with is a great dessert at cinderallas castle. wonderful cheesecake. And all the fast food counter service usually have salads that are so so. Have a great time!

I know that at the MK, Cosmic Rays cafe has a side area that has salads only, Then on the *other* side of the cafe, they have baked chicken and vegies. You can even get a family meal deal there with the chicken. We ate there, and it was so good to get away from hamburgers and chicken tenders!!! Also there was an outside area not too far from Cosmic rays/Bridge back to main street that served salads.

In MK, at Pinocchio's they have turkey sandwiches with carrots (you can share this with someone...I think it's called Monstro's which is an accurate description!) At Wild Pecos Bill's, they have wraps as well as at the ABC Commisary in MGM. Happy eating!

In Epcot, the Sunshine Season Food Fair in The Land offers a good selection of fairly healthy sandwiches, including a veggie wrap that's pretty tasty. The Sunshine Season Food Fair is the food court located on the lower level of the building.

Also, the Tangierine Cafe in Morocco has very good sandwiches, wraps and platters, some of which are vegetarian.

just a tip for anyone with food problems. My mother CAN'T eat any food high in fat because she has a problem with the lining of her stomach. If she consumes more than 20 grams of fat in one sitting she become violently ill.

What was great about WDW was that 24 hours before the time of our PS, we called the place we choose to eat and was able to talk to the kitchen. We explained our problem and they gave my mother a choice of 2-3 meals they could make her that would fall into the guidline of what she could eat.

It was great, and she did not get sick even once, which means they really did a great job of preparing a meal just for her.

It was also very easy for us, we just told the resturant who we were and her meal came out with ours and was not a problem at any of the 10 places we ate.

Hope this helps anyone who is in need of a special diet meal.

oh, and just to let you know, make sure when you make the PS, you explain your problem, some resturants can't do this for you, but we didn't come across many.

Can I add one more suggestion?

Tusker House in AK (it is in Africa near the safari) has GREAT grilled salmon, chicken, etc served with fresh, crispy vegetables. It is walk up counter service and at a reasonable price. DH, DD & I all ate for about $20.

You'll find healthy choices at ALL of the character dinners. I was very impressed with the choices at the Crystal Palace. My DD loved the salad and fish. The Garden Grill in the Land has great food; served with fresh veggies grown right there on site! And the characters are great too!

Happy Eating!!!

But don't forget one of the Mickey Ice Cream bars. Almost worth the lactose-intolerant induced stomachache I get every time I eat one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Almost every place incuding the fast food areas have a veggie meal. Not all places post it, but just ask what the vegetarian selection is when you order. The McDonalds at AK had a great Grilled Chicken Salad last time I was there.

I found that many of the Buffet's allow you to make smart choices if your family like's to eat the fattening stuff. I really liked the lunch buffet at the Crystal Palace (Character meal). They have a HUGE salad bar and lean meats. My very favorite was the Boma for Dinner at the AKL. They have lot's of veggies.

Good Luck. The temptations are all around you. I lost 25 pounds before going in May. I realy tried to eat well. But I gained 5 back by the time I got back home. I just figured... I'm not at Disney World Everyday.;)

How about bringing a George Foreman Grill???

I have been working out all summer, to lose a few extra pounds for this vacation (Lost 35 lbs, in 2 months). I found the healthiest meals and have been my slim fast drinks and scrambled egg whites for breakfast, 3 rolled slices of turkey breast and slim fast for lunch, a hand full of some sort of fruit for mid-day snack, 1 hour of cardio and 45 minutes of weight training, along with my Hydroxycut, has been excellent. I bought the George Forman Grill and for dinner, I'll do Grilled, Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast, Grilled Fish (Mahi Mahi, is my favorite), Turkey Burgers, on a cheat day, I'll have grilled beef (sirloin or rib eye) but, a good cut. I don't know if this will help. But, I figure if you wanted to save a little on lunch or dinner, you could spend about $5 on a pack of chicken breast and grill it in your room, with steamed broccoli or some other veggie, if you are staying at one of the resorts with a kitchen.

:)
